Just finished watching last Wed new episode. Only the 7pm (New episode) showing on Wed is HD, right? Well I know the repeat showing right after is not HD.

Maybe they'll do The Hills in HD.

That looks like film so they'd only have to convert it right?

I highly doubt The Hills is shot on film. They probably use an effect to make it look like film.

I don't know but it looks like they frame it for 16x9. I would like to see it in HD.

Why wouldn't they frame it for 16:9? It's shown in SD letterbox.

What a shame!! The FIRST HD program on MUSIC TELEVISION wasn't a music video!

Ehhh, you'd have a point if it was one of their reality shows. But it was the award show for music videos.

Not sure what Hisham Abed shoots The Hills on now but those shows were done on a Panasonic AJ-SDX900 (SD widescreen at 24p) camera for a long time. They've probably moved up to a HPX2000/3000 or something it wouldn't shock me if the show is now shot in HD, but it may not air in HD. They do a ton of color grading and on set lighting tricks to get the look of the show, but it most certainly has a video-ish quality to it, definitely not film.

There's some stuff in HD On Demand for MTV and VH1 HD...just so you all know :)

I'm sure he was referring to the 24p look as "film", not necessarily any quality inherent to film itself.

DirecTV doesn't have any HD VOD stuff for them. What do you have?

Wait, there is actually a MTV HD channel, unrelated to Palladia/MHD? What do they show? Stretched mtv content?

Yes, there is an actual MTV HD channel, along with VH1 HD and CMT HD. When they're showing SD content (which is the vast majority of the time for MTV HD, and all the time for the other two) they pillar box it.

ABCTV99 is correct. More details at the link below.

The Hills--the HD lenses and the SDX900s with their 16:9, 24P and Film-like gamma

The Hills is edited on an Avid system, and on-lined with a full DaVinci color correct at West Post Digital.

Just as Laguna Beach, The Hills utilizes Panasonic AG-DVX100A Mini-DV 24p cameras for some insert shots.

Hills are shot in HD but not broadcast in HD?

That show is almost over anyways.
