So here is my delema:

I just recently bought a Yamaha HTR 6150 AV receiver. I aslo already have a Panasonic Plasma TH42PZ77 and i hook my laptop up to it via HDMI, so basicly i use it as a monitor. My laptop is a hp dv5 1028ca, with blu ray player and hdmi out. My TV works well with the laptop, But what i want to do is get 5.1 sound from my laptop. So i hook my laptop up to the receiver via HDMI, then to the TV from the receiver via HDMI aswell. so this should work correct?
i get video but i cant get any sound. Is my laptop not capable of 5.1? but it has a blu ray player in it and hdmi out, i think it should, right?


I aslo tryed to hook the laptop up to the TV via HDMI and then optical audio out of the TV to my receiver, with no luck aswell.

also now my tv does not output audio when the laptop is connected directly to the TV........sigh

did you set up the optical/hdmi ports in your receiver
my older Denon requires you to set up each input and assign a name such as TV DVD etc
that about all I can think of

it has preset ones. like dvd and dtv
