View Full Version : Star Wars Clone Wars: Nov 11
tkbryant 11-03-09, 10:25 PM I watched the first 3. Outstanding PQ. Very deep blacks. If you've seen the movie then you know what to expect. The blacks seem deeper this time around though. The audio is pretty good too. Yes it's only DD 648 Kbps but it still has better sound design than some summer blockbusters. Can't wait to dig into the extras!!
giantchicken 11-04-09, 12:51 AM My excitement about Amazon's new release date delivery was pretty diminished by the time they finally dropped off my package at 8:00 pm.
I hate Digibook packaging, but this is really well done and beautiful. If it were the same height as the rest of my Blu-ray cases, I'd really love it. Only had time to watch one episode because of the record setting late night delivery from my new friends at ONTRAC, but it looked great while leaving me wishing for high def audio.

Thansk for that :)
Is the video 1080/24P or 1080/60?
Is the audio DD EX 5.1?

TrueHD would have been nice but honestly with the episodes being 20 min in length, ya really don't even notice it. The DD+ track sounds great! There are some really jaw dropping scenes in the first few episodes. I can't even bear to watch it on Cartoon Network after seeing the HD versions. HD makes a BIG difference in the visual quality for this series. This one will be getting alot of replay at mi casa!!
Told ya the packaging was gorgeous. I was like you, hate digibooks. Warner outdone themselves with the case for this one though.

So is the soundtrack dolby digital plus ( like on hd dvd's)? I have never seen a blu ray with DD+ soundtracks so far.
tkbryant 11-04-09, 10:40 AM DD+ is 648 Kbps on Blu-ray. For the other question someone else asked it it 1080p 24.
UxiSXRD 11-04-09, 12:33 PM Picked up the very last set at Wal Mart last night. Definitely awed by many scenes in the first few eps. Blu-ray really does them justice... a shame there's no lossless. I would have loved uncompressed PCM audio.

Track down Paramount's SHOOTER. I believe that is DD+, at least my region B is (I think?).

Thank you Warner for 1080/24P :D
Is there a special flag for DD+ or is just the standard DD logo on the AVR? I am not seeing anything special like a + sign or anything.
Patsfan123 11-04-09, 08:35 PM For all practical purposes there is no Dolby Digital Plus on blu-ray.. only on HD DVD. DD+ can only exist on blu-ray in more channels than 5.1, but this has NEVER happened for any movie. Might as well just TrueHD.
This and all other Dolby Digital releases will max out at 640kbps, and all Warner releases have been 640kpbs so far.
It is intersting that when Dolby released Dolby Digital back on LD as AC3 in 1995, the decoders supported 384, 448, and 640Kbs back then. Yet it has taken almost 15 years to actually hear it. Some DVD-A discs were supposed to offer it along with the PPCM stream, however I read that never happended either, that these discs ran at DVD's 448Kbs.
Dave Mack 11-05-09, 12:12 AM The Pink Floyd DVD PULSE from a few years back had a 640kps DD track

And that would explain some of the hype surrounding its SQ when it was released.

it did sound excellent.
:)
So those that are lucky enough to have their copies of SWCW Series 1, has anyone watched all 22 episodes yet?
UxiSXRD 11-05-09, 11:10 AM I'm about half way through. Finished disc 1 last night.
Jacob305 11-05-09, 11:30 AM can you turn off the thx stuff for the HD basics disc? . I dont have that one my receiver. I get the trueHD ex.

THX processing is post decode processing, so it doesn't affect the bitstream, just enhances the end sound field. The EX flag is only seen when I select the standard DD track off the SWCW disc and is on the JPK DVD, not the BD for some reason.
colombianlove41 11-12-09, 12:59 AM I think this set is beautiful....I was waiting for these in blu because my cn doesn't have an HD channel. Minus the sound, this is something I could def use to get my friends to buy a blu player....(side note: I'm sure Warner already has a "Jedi council" version with lossless sound in the works!)
Is season II out yet on Blu?
Is season II out yet on Blu?
No, season 2 run on Cartoon Network isn't over. There are still 3 or 4 eps left. Don't expect to see a release on DVD and Blu-ray 'til right before season 3 in the fall.
Dave Mack 04-07-10, 10:36 AM I can't wait. I really liked S1. Much better than the first two prequels imho.
Cartoon Network zooms and crops these and with logos, commercials I am just waiting to watch S2 on BD.
:)
Jacob305 04-07-10, 11:24 AM I got season 1 of clone wars and watched the series. did you have some questions about it?

The original intent of DD+ was to offer DD quality at lower bitrates. There were a couple of key additions that could be optionally added to the DD+ stream to allow further reduction of data. I think I read on Dolby whitepaper that claimed a 320kbps DD+ stream with those options included in the stream could rival a standard 640kbps DD track.
I think it still may be used on the Vudu streaming system, but Vudu boxes use the DD+ to build a standard DD standard stream for compatibility with legacy decoders.
On HD DVD, some studios used the more open packet definitions to increase the bitrate of DD+. Some at Dolby claimed there was little quality increase at the higher rates. Warner used DD+ on HD DVD to get around the packet constraint for DD that limited it 448 or 504kbps on HD DVD. Basically most Warner DD+ tracks are just 640kbps DD transcoded to DD+ to get around the packet constraint.
I just went to a local DVD store and found STAR WARS CLONE WARS Season 2 on BD and it is 16:9 WTF?
Am I the only one that like the TV Series STAR WARS THE CLONE WARS?
I now have season 1, 2 and 3 (they are all letterboxed) and think some of the stuff in this cartoon is better than what is in the live action movies. I am looking forward to season 4.
EDIT: I decided to bump this thread rather than starting a new one.
Hated the movie, but this series is actually pretty good overall. It improves season by season and I've been surprised by some of the things that have happened so far.

You are not alone although I like s1 better then s2. Waiting for s3 to come down in price.
Still I wish they would explore the 'dark side' of the republic and the clones although it was hinted at the end of s2 of the republic.

Not sure what they are worth in the US, but S1 is still $99 here. S2 was $75, S3 about $66 and I am waiting on S4 which not out yet AFAIK.

They have tapped into that with S3 and S4 is looking at showing Anakin's 'dark side' a fair bit more which is what I wish we had seen in the live action films.

I guess you pay more for BDs in Australia, I thought your dollar, like the Canadian was near par to the greenback? In Canada I bought s1 & s2 for $35 and s3 is around $54.

Oh Anakin's 'dark side' has been cover quite a bit, it's the clones and the final stage of the republic I mean.

We pay more for everything here even when our dollar is higher.
Todayat time of posting:
1.00 AUD = 1.05988 USD

Yeah I agree. The way they just turn in SW3 is actually a bit odd given the relationship troopers like Cody and Rex have with the Jedi. Sure, when they were "made" they would follow any order without question, but given the 5 years they fight beside the Jedi, you'd think some of them would have learned to think for themselves (and they show in the CW that they do) and question an order like 66.
Just how powerful is the dark side?
