I've preordered mine. It'll be nice to have the entire run in a boxed set considerig the cost and pain it was to collect the DVD/HD-DVD edition 6-7 part set.

Never heard of this series, but the characters look like they're straight out of 'AKIRA'....link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqMgmvpYPpk&feature=related)

It's character designer, Katsuhiro Otomo, created the original Akira manga and directed the Akira movie.... so yes they look like Akira.

This better be the greatest anime in the history of animation for that price!

It's also Region A. Will that play on a US Playstation 3 console? Anyone?

Yes no problems. Region A is region A, America and Japan are in the same Bluray region.

Japanese pricing for discs has always been steep.

Considering the total SRP for the HD DVDs was $240 and you didn't even get the 7th episode, I'd say $140 is pretty good for a complete set in a nice box.

By the way, you can get it for around $80 at DVD Pacific. Bandai's discount is generally higher there than elsewhere, so for example despite a $50 list price Akira should be available for less than $30.

i'd like to own this series, but man o man, not for that price. Even at $80, it's a hard sell for me. They also could have easily put all the episodes on ONE BD50. :(

But this way it seems like more value for your money! ;)

There's also another important aspect of if, which is that they can make more on rentals without having to re-author the discs.

They might make a little more on rentals, but I think the MSRP and multiple discs make them lose a lot more on sales.

Those concerned about the $80 price tag a few vendors have might want to keep Ebay in mind.If you can hold out a few weeks once demand settles, you can usually find some of the more expensive dvd/Bluray sets for1/2 MSRP or less.
