I know this is very elemenatry for you guys, I am just buying my first HDTV. I am looking at the Sony 40"XBR6 with 50,000 dynamic contrast or a Sony 46"XBR8 that has 1 million. Is this something a novice would notice? The price is double. How about 40 vs 46 from 10" viewing. Is it a strain on the eyes? Seems like 46" is huge.
Sorry for such a simple question, looking for some place to get answers since the stores don't seem to really know much about newer products.::confused:

This would be better asked in the display forum pertaining to the type of TV you are looking to buy.

There should probably be existing threads on the models of TV you are looking to buy also.

Well for one thing the contrast ratio means absolutely nothing. ITs not a regulated stat. A correctly calibrated lcd will give u a ratio of about 1000/1. The 46 is probly the biggest I would go. I do think you would not be disappointed with the 40. I am not an lcd fan myself b/c of various things, but if you are set on lcd I highly recommend you do alot of research on here first. Dont be afraid to check out plasmas also. I think you will find a better pic for less money.
