For upscaling standard definition sources to 720p or 1080i, anything much better than the Faroudja as in a Crystalio 2300 ? I'm using an analog Sony HDTV ... I read here for a few days and saw Silicon Optics, but opinions seem to differ and didn't find specifics as to what aspects are better even when claimed to be ...

The Lumagen video processors have Lumagen's proprietary "no-ring" scaling. This "no-ring" scaling will give you the least artifacts on the edges of objects when you scale SD video sources to a HD display.

According to their website the only product that has their " no ring" scaling retails for $4495.(The Radiance XD)
None of the other products are listed as having "Proprietary Lumagen no-ring scaling"

in my 3 years with the Crystalio 2300 I do not recall seeing any rings, either from my Sony HS51/ Shap 10000projector (doing 100" sizes) or Sony 36" CRT HDTV

I was going by what was listed on their website and only one model specifically says that in the description.

Go to this page

http://www.lumagen.com/testindex.php?module=products

And click on the " Click here for more details" link for each scaler. Only the The Radiance XD lists "Proprietary Lumagen "no-ring" scaling"

If all their scalers have this then they need to change their website since the lack of this information can affect potential customers.

thanks for the responses already !

I thought the biggest problem I experience is whenever upscaling to higher resolutions than 480p, the sharpness and contrast degrades too much, losing 3 D depth and sharpness, all in the name of upscaling, I hope some newer scaler can solve it

I'm running 480i or 480p mostly ...
