I currently have a sony HT-7200DH HTIB setup and it sounds decent, but I want more. So, I'm thinking of upgrading myself to the following for christmas.

2x Polk Audio Monitor 50's for L/R
Polk Audio Monitor CS2 for Center
2x Polk Audio Monitor 30's for rear L/R

I already have a sony SAW3000 for the subwoofer, so that's handled, but yeah. Think this sounds like a really good upgrade from Sony's default HTIB speakers? Getting it hopefully for around 550 total (maybe less if I get it from polkdirect).

I would start with a new reciever like a yamaha 663 or something like along those lines that does Dolby True HD and DTS Master and then build from there you'll be much happier than pairing up decent speakers with that crappy reciever

I would have to disagree with this. While the Sony is not a great receiver, getting the Polk speakers would make a big difference with your sound quality. I mean I think you are wanting to upgrade, not scrap your entire system, right? Getting the Polks will be a very good upgrade from the Sony speakers no matter what the receiver.
