I was going to buy a backup bulb for my vw60 and noticed that the Sony bulb is 100 bucks more than the generic bulb.

Is it worth the 100 bucks or no?

Thanks.

I can't speak to the Sony bulbs, but here's my limited experience with aftermarket bulbs:

I went with a 3rd party repalcement for the OEM bulb in my Toshiba MT800 (Infocus 7205). The original bulb was intact at about 3000 hours, but dim.

The new bulb (about $150 cheaper than OEM, but was bulb only- no housing) exploded at less than 100 hours (sounded like an M-80 in my living room). Cooincidentally, the vendor had mistakenly shipped a second bulb to my house a week earlier which I was going to return. Instead, I installed the second aftermarket bulb, and in less than 100 hours, that bulb simply stopped lighting.

My original bulb is now back in my pj, and at close to 4000 hours, is still going.
I've decided to give my pj to a friend (I'm upgrading), but I made sure he ordered an OEM replacement.

I'm sure YMMV, but it's unlikely I'd bother with 3rd party manufacturers in the future. In my case, a $150 savings turned into a $350 write off (or was that $700? I don't know if they ever billed me for the second bulb).

We also own a SONY VPL-VW60 = Tremendous projector. In answer to your question, forget the generic bulb, go with the OEM bulb and Contact Jason at AVS for your replacement bulb, you will be pleased with the price ;)
