Im running a PSB 25 speaker set with matching center and a BIC subwoofer. Everything is currently running through a denon 788 receiver and a ps3 is used for my music/movie source ( HD Audio tracks sound amazing). Now i dont consider myself to be a newb to electronics but I am when it comes to amps. I just went through all this with headphones when I kept upgrading until I got a pair of beyerdynamics and a WOO amp for the phones and it made a huge difference!! Im looking to get this wow factor from my speakers now. They sound great, like the headphones did, but Im wondering what im missing without any amp in my setup. As you can see my setup is by no means high end so im not expecting to drop alot on an amp, just something entry level that would support my setup for both movies and music and supports the HD audio tracks (but im assuming this is still done within my ps3 as it is now). I dont know alot about amps for speakers so speak plainly. Thank you everyone.

Put it this way = $ for $ headphones sound significantly better than speakers.

So for a $300 set of headphones it may well be worthwhile spending $200 on a headphone amp.

But for speakers one can easily spend $3000 yet upgrading from a $300 receiver to a $2000 amp will make jack all differences to how they sound.

So all i'm suggesting is hold off from investing in an extra/upgraded "amp" until you're sure it's not the speakers/your environment holding back the sound.
