MIL/PHI game is definitely out of sync here on Cablevision. Audio is a split second ahead of video, the same as last night's MIN/CHI game.

watching now...

no audio dropouts, but the picture is very grainy... almost looks like upscaled sd? maybe it's because of the way the light is, it's very dark to the north here right now and bright to the south... commercials are clear though...

fios, south jersey (about 4 miles as the crow flies from the ballpark, which is why i have a good feel of what the light is like... ;) )...

edit: i'll be shocked if there isn't a rain delay here shortly... lot of thunder rumbling, and VERY windy...

I don't think the pq is very good at all. D* on a Pro 151. Dark, dingy, not very sharp and certain camera shots appear hazy.

Audio dropouts have been gone since more or less the game started. Picture is grainy but I think that might be the lighting?

So much for defense on the Brewers side, eh?

ccotenj
10-01-08, 03:56 PM
i think that the lighting conditions right now is causing the "darkness" of the picture... it's a really funky sky right now...

definitely "hazy" (what i referred to as "grainy") though... again, i think that might have something to do with the lighting as well, but i'm not sure...

geez, the brewers are handing the game to the sillies...

I noticed a few, switched back to the game before the commerical was over and the annoucers weren't ready and just silence.

I also tried out the tbs hot corner, with the 4 videos. It was ok, but being like 45 sec behind wasn't great nor was that the video stopped after each half inning.

Affirmative on the static. Wonder if it was some kind of clipping or something similar from the roar of the crowd.

I know that I should just be watching the game but after watching the SOX on TBS HD last night. The PQ and AQ were top notch. Not so much tonight. :(

Thanks for the affirmative. Probably was clipping because they panned the camera(s) awfully fast.

In my opinion, video on DirecTV not as sharp as last night's Twins-Sox games where you could actually see the blades of grass as the pitcher was throwing to home plate.

And you could hear commentary from the front and rest of sounds from the game in the rears (music at the ball park, fans, etc..)

Please remember to post what source you get TBS HD from: Dish, DirecTV, Cable (if cable, also post your cableco & location).

Thanks in advance for your participation at AVS.

?

Audio does not have issues because of fast camera movement.

Because of the quick action of sporting events the A/V can be out-of-sync at times especially switching views from what I observed over the years. The sound can lag behind the video while panning different cameras.

All I have to say is the Red Sox vs Angels in 1080i look SO MUCH better than the 720p broadcasts I've seen on Fox....including local and national games. I'm using Time Warner cable (Brighthouse) in southeastern Michigan. The improved detail and resolution is outstanding. I'm getting an extremely clean image too. (Viewing on an ISF'd 60" Sony SXRD 60A3000)

I really wish Fox would switch over to 1080i!

pq much better than yesterday, i'm guessing that's because it's "under the lights" rather than the funny light yesterday afternoon... just a TAD of graininess... a bit of swimming grass, but only a bit... closeups and dugout shots are really good...

i agree with ken, a bit low in the surrounds...

Not sure anyone else notices, but every broadcast so far has been a tad 'washed out' -- when showing the regular behind the picture camera. Sorta like there is a cloud over the entire screen. In fact, the Viagra commercial that was just on had better picture quality than this view. The other cameras seem to have a little more detail, but nowhere near the equivalent of what I would be expecting for a major broadcast.

Dodgers @ Cubs, Game 2 PQ looks really good. Watching on a 50" 1080p plasma via D*. Excellent at normal viewing distances, a little soft up close. Blimp shots of Wrigley are some of the best blimp shots I've ever seen in any sport.

ESPN, Fox, and NBC take note - there's NO opaque background filler or useless graphic garbage above the TBS score bar - just clean and clear video, thank you very much.

Not looking forward to Fox's subpar 720p version of the World Series...

What were they thinking when they scheduled the Cubs @ Dodgers game at 10:00pm ET on a Saturday night? I can sort of understand that time on a weekday when the L.A. people need to get home from work by 6 or 7pm local time, but on a weekend there's no good reason for that late of a start.

The Phillies @ Brewers game preceding it at 6:30 ET could have been pushed back earlier.

I think that's a good time for everyone, even here in NY. Nothing really on TV at that time anyway. Had they showed this during the week like Red Sox/Angels, I would probably fall asleep.

TBS HD appears to be having trouble getting the commercials started in time. They are all cut 3 seconds short, which leads to either quick cuts or this weird stuttering noise.

At CBP, the picture quality and audio seem to be fine, no major problems.

At Wrigley, though, there are these tiny black lines that cut through the image every 10 seconds or so. They are horizontal and are in random positions on the screen.

I'm sure once TBS gets to cut their crews down to just 2 stadiums and 1 broadcast group, they will be back to producing top notch stuff.

I see the same thing. They will do a national commercial for like Directv, then when it goes to a local commercial, the sound level goes way up, I have to lower it.
I was at my in-laws last night and they have Verizon Fios NY and the PQ seemed better than my Cablevision NY PQ, so I have to assume my carrier is at fault.

I can't stand the guy in the first place, and now I have to look forward to this?

This is why I hate the three divisional, wild card format. Well, one good thing - two lame-o NL teams, one of which will have to face the Rays or Red Sox from the superior AL.
