We previously had Da-Lite with our Fujitsu projector, however this time around we have been given the option between Stewart and Draper. The home theater installer we are working with recommends Draper in the 16:9 HDTV ratio -- 106 Inches diagonally, fixed screen. He mentioned the Onyx, but I'm not sure we like the 4 inch band around the screen. Regardless, they seem to have several different models as far as color, gray, white, etc. Not sure which one to go with. Any ideas? What is CinemaScope ratio?

You'll probably get a better answer in the Screen Forum. But, you need to provide more information like your room environment (size, wall/ceiling/floor color etc), screen size, ambient light, viewing habits (sports games and/or movies?) viewing distance etc. A good place to start is Bob Sorel's thread Will this projector/screen work in my room? Oh one more thing the RS1X is being replaced by a new model the HD350/RS10 due out in November, make sure your getting a really good deal on the RS1X because the new model is much improved.

What is considered a "good deal"?

What is different with the newer model?

I just bought and had a RS1x installed.

Well specs on the room, 17 x 13. Dedicated home theater, no light, dark accents throughout, brown/light brown everything, garnet red curtain, etc. I've been told to go with a white 1.3 gain screen since it is a dedicated HT with little to no light.

About the new model coming out...will the RS1X be discontinued? What is the cost of the new HD350/750 coming out? How much better will it be than the RS1X?

if you are going to have ambient light, go with a gray screen. If you have light color walls, go with a gray screen. If you have no ambient light and dark walls, go with a white screen. Thats the basic idea

From the first hand reports on the engineering samples the HD350 is much better and I believe the MSRP is slightly less than RS1X. Call AVS directly if you want to discuss actual prices. Personally, if I were you, and wanted to stick with the RS1X I would wait a month, once the HD350 comes out the RS1X retail value will drop further. But honestly, given the improvements the HD350 is a better deal even if the purchase price is slightly higher.

Well, took your advice and called AV Science and reserved an RS10. Still not sure which screen to go with. Jason from AVScience mentioned a White 1.3 Gain DaLite Screen. From one of the above posters, gray is then a consideration again?

Given your dark room with no ambient light I would agree with Jason. Daniel Hutnicki said if you have ambient light go with gray. Dalite is coming out with a new screen material that may be great for your setup. But, the availability date for the non-gray version may not work for you. Here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1065948) is a thread discussing the new screen

Technicality...not replacing it. The lineup will be RS10, RS1X, RS20, RS2X in order from lowest to highest (not price point, rather what JVC says). Regardless, all 4 will be in lineup.

So the RS10 is a lower model than the RS1X? Or is it just better due to the price point of being less than the RS1X? Is lower model even a term really applicable to these two projectors, or is it rather trivial?

Yea, JVC says that the RS1 and 2 will remain but as Jmass03 confusion points out it's hard to see a logical marketing plan in that lineup for the long term. But, then JVC's board of directors didn't offer me the CEO position.

Right now it seems to be more on a timing need and the actual application, whether to buy now or wait for the new models. The mounts are different and lens location is different and recessed in the case. Potential anamorphic lens issues ???. No CMS in the RS10, if you have a Radiance in the system then less of a need for the RS20. New case is longer and bulb access is from the rear, possible installation issues........

Best guess would be that the RS2/1X will remain till all production is run and little or no demand.
