Hello, I'm not sure how common this problem is, but hopefully someone can help.

My cable comes into the side of the house from the ground, and is wired above the basement floor to reach all of the rooms. The first basement room that it passes over has fluorescent lights, and the cables pass over the lights. When those lights are on, the picture is interfered with, but only on the lower channels (ABC, CBS, etc). This only affects 6 or 7 channels, but it makes the picture horrible. When the fluorescents are off, the picture is much better.

Does anyone know of a solution, preferably without re-routing the wires? Would a shield of some kind help, or maybe more insulation on the coax cable? Here's an example of the picture that I have to deal with.

Thanks!

Fluorescent lights can be a problem, the new styles (CFL and some of the straight tube types) more so. You don't have dimmers hooked-up to the lights do you? Who ran the co-ax and how long ago?

There aren't any dimmers, just the regular flourescents. The cable was run when the house was built (by a contractor I assume) about 10 years ago, and and the lights were put in about 8 years ago. As far as I know, the problem has always existed.

Since this is caused by proximity you really only have two options...

1) Move the cable
2) Move the lights

Of the two a cable reroute would probably be the easiest.
