Hm, I've never seen colour blotches like that in COD4. At least I don't think I have! Now, you probably would have said if this happens with regular TV watching, so let's rule your TV out for now. Does it happen with other games, too? Or just COD4? Maybe it's a bad HDMI cable. Try switching the PS3 HDMI with your cable HDMI and see what happens. Now, someone's probably going to jump on me for that one, and tell me it's a stupid suggestion....but that's where I usually start with troubleshooting...cheap and dumb! sometimes you get lucky! :p

If it's just COD4 specific, maybe you've got a bad disc. Some information missing. Go and rent another game, and see what happens. Otherwise, things probably start getting a little more expensive for you. Could be your PS3. Hopefully not, though.

This happens when I play the PS3 on my brother in laws plasma tv. For some reason, and it doesn't happen all the time, I get a funny purplish glare like you show above. This happens on all games that have a bright background, anything dark doesn't show like that.

i play lots of online COD and i've never seen anything like that. i use a plasma as well. i guess it's possible i'm too busy killing people and just missed it, but i don't recall ever seeing the issue. i don't have the creek map yet though.

It could be the beginning of the GPU on the PS3 going bad.

They run very hot...hotter than most here would like to believe. There's a reason Nvidia has a temperature cap as high as 120C (yes C, not F).

The 7900GTs in my PC (basically the same as the RSX) ran at 95C+ during gaming.

It's possible that it is overheating or some of the GDDR3 is getting flaky. Not saying that's the case, but it's not "out there" either.

Do you think this could be "fringing" that we were talking about a while back on the ". It's official. I see a rainbow-like effect on every plasma (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=603995&page=17&highlight=rainbows) " thread?

That looks like the GPU overheating, or maybe dying.

Well,
This problem is getting worse.
now I am seeing all kind of flashes of not just purple, but white and green.

Another thing,
It is definitly not the TV.
It has to be the PS3.

I think I am just going to replace the whole motherboard.

Does anyone know where to buy a PS3 motherboard at a good price?? (not ebay)

HELP HELP HELP!!!!!

You tried it on another TV set? Dumb question, but still.

Replace the motherboard? Just send it in for repair to Sony under warranty or not. Take pictures on two different displays and include that in with the system after you set up for it to go in so you don't go through circles with them that it isn't the PS3 if you already know it is the PS3.

have you tested the ps3 on other tv's? how do you have it connected to the tv? hdmi? if so, try component and see if you have the same problem. if it is in fact, contact sony for repairs, do not replace anything yourself.

I would get a new PS3 or send in yours to be fixed for $150.

Does it happen to any other games, the new COD perhaps?

I feel you on keeping it. Had my original 60gb not gotten stolen, I would've been absuing the hell out of the backwards capability. Now I have a newer 40gb. :(
