I need to add a Digital Video recorder to my setup. I looked to change my Pace HD digital box for one but the company (videotron) charges 599$ + 15% taxes. quite pricy.

So I found a Sony 160GB HDD http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10108111 for 249$ which is a lot more in my price range.

I do not need to record in HD, I still have a 32 inch Sony Triton TV. All we want is to be able to record a few shows.

I'm guessing that I won't be able to record and view a different channel at the same time ? Is this right? I'm also wondering if I need to record different channel while I'm away is that possible ? Any problems I might encounter with such a setup ?

Not if it doesn't have it's own tuner (and I don't think it does based on the description).

Without having some way to change channels on your cable box while you're away, you'd only be able to be to record whatever channel the cable box is left on.
