Bitter much? You sound like what a lot of players are saying having to move here!

And if it's any consolation, I'll do my part ignoring them so they feel right at home! :p

You can have the team-formly-known-as-the-Sonics. In fact, do you want our football and baseball teams too?

I, for one, wouldn't shed a tear if all our teams went bye-bye.

But, I'm just bitter because I think that building stadiums for sports teams (especially crappy ones) is a waste of taxpayer's money. Not to mention that our taxes has gone up 4 times on sports venues alone. Hell, we're still paying for the Kingdome from the 80s, which has already been torn down. Also, my office is in the middle of all 3 venues and it's a cluster-hump of traffic during game days.

WOW!

Lots of SOCOM! The whole BSSM album for Rock Band! I don't even have Rock Band yet, I have been holding out for RB2 and now I really can't wait, even though the game is going to end up costing me a fortune.

I think I might take a look at the BIA's demo - not in as much wanting to play WWII in a video game, but more for the comparison to the mechanics and graphics of other shooters out there.

I know the game is being heralded for their "cover system" amongst other things.

let me see if i understand this... ea promotes the hell out of the "live 365" feature in nba live 09, charges me $60 for the game and then expects me to pay another $20 to get the 365 feature? they're on crack...

EDIT: apparently the game itself comes with the code to unlock the live 365 for free. the code is tied to one user only, so if someone trades the game in and you buy it, you will need a new live 365 code. this is what the $20 is for. all is well :)

Totally agreed. The fact that rich billionaires can hold cities hostage unless they get hundreds of millions of dollars for free from taxpayers is one of the most shameless things in America nowadays. I applaud areas of the country that reject these things soundly like Seattle and San Francisco. Of course, I live in Northern Jersey and this area is getting new baseball and football stadiums complete with fat PSLs and ticket price increases so these richie riches are living large off my tax money.

Well, I play every game I get on the hardest level available. So I played the Demo on Top Player.

You can choose between Man Utd, Liverpool, Barca, Real Madrid and two National Sides (Italy and I forget which other one). All mentioned are fully licensed and are almost up-to-date (Liverpool has Robbie Keane but Man Utd does not have Berbatov yet).

The gameplay is slowed down from last year's "arcadey" feel. The reaction time for players (especially defenders) are much better. It's harder to beat defenders down the flanks as the left back will track and the center back will help out.

I played two games so far, both were Man Utd vs Liverpool. The first game I lost 0-1 and then won the second game 2-0.

There is not much that you can do because it is a demo, but you can play 5 minute halves and exhibition match only.

There are LED boards around the stadiums now. Lighting looks gorgeous. Definitely has a High Def feeling to the game.

Prior to PES2008, PES/WE was known for some incredible individual player skills, PES2009 brings that back brilliantly. C. Ronaldo and Messi are both fast players and incredible dribblers, but neither of them run the same way in real life and Konami has done a great job at replicating that.

I could go on and on but I would really suggest creating a UK account just for this demo.

Will do. Thanks for the thoughts on the demo, I am definatly picking this up day1. Are you sure that the US version is actually being released at the same time as UK and JAP? So far everything sounds great except the loss of la liga, and the fact that they chose to licence Liverpool instead of Chelsea. I mean wtf?

The US release date for PES2009 is the 28th.

I've pre-ordered mine from the UK which comes out on the 17th.

King, can you elaborate on what it is about PES that people hold so dear? I just got done playing the demo a few times and can't figure out what it is about this game that people go so nuts over. I'm not trying to pick a fight or start a flamewar here, I just honestly don't get it.

The gameplay feels stiff, the ball has absolutely no physics to it that I saw, it certainly isn't anything special to look at. Doesn't seem to have nearly the intelligence that FIFA has (though that could have been the 'regular' difficulty setting I was playing on). FIFA seems miles ahead in every possible way. It must be a taste thing. I'm an avid EPL fan and think FIFA represents the real life game in far greater fashion that what the PES 2009 demo showed me. Is there something in the days of old that made PES/WE great that people just can't seem to let go of? Because I gotta say, PES 2009 (in my eyes) certainly doesn't live up the reputation that so many people bestow upon the franchise.

Well, I don't see how this is going to turn out any other way than a flame war because everything you used to describe PES is the same way I feel about FIFA.

I've said it before, I've either played or owned every FIFA game going back to the SNES days. And when I came across PES/WE it was a welcomed change. The FIFA gameplay feels very "arcadey", the player responsiveness is very sluggish and the player models look like wax.

PES on the other hand plays like a simulation. I like the simulation feel to a football game, I like that the players respond to my button commands quickly. I don't know what and where you see FIFA being miles ahead. I only see that in one place and that's licenses.

Again, you said it best, it may just come down to taste. Since touching PES/WE I have been unable to enjoy a game of FIFA because it was just too easy (even on the hardest difficulty). PES/WE on the other hand made you feel like it took all 11 players to make score a goal and they did this very well up until last year (which the creator even apologized for allowing such a game to be made). This year, PES plays more like PES 5/6 with better graphics. The ball physics are superb as it no longer ping-pongs around the place like PES2008.

FIFA is a great game in its own right, but it's just not for me.

If EA's FIFA ever loses its monopoly on the league licenses, I don't think it will still be a contender in the Football genre. Right now, and this is purely my opinion, the only thing that keeps FIFA going is the fact that everything is ready right out of the box, however, with PES and its lack of licenses, people either have to do their own editing or wait for an option file that someone else creates that has all the kits and transfers up to date.

I find on PES/WE there are more individual traits portaited on players, the players better reflect their reallife counterparts, and as of such playing them out of position can make a huge difference to their performance. AI is also along the same lines, more characterised by both individual and teams.

I played the Bioshock demo and wow! all the memories. For me it looks and sounds almost the same as the Xbox version.
When the full game was released I played it in a PC, so I don't expect to be too impressed by the graphics here. But I've played both demos, for the Xbox and PS3, and both of them look amazing.
I love Bioshock too much, I may buy this game for the PS3!

Totally agreed. The fact that rich billionaires can hold cities hostage unless they get hundreds of millions of dollars for free from taxpayers is one of the most shameless things in America nowadays. I applaud areas of the country that reject these things soundly like Seattle and San Francisco.

The owners of the SF Giants also demonstrated that it is possible to build an excellent stadium with private funding. Unfortunately, owners can hold cities hostage with the threat of moving to another city that is willing to accede to their demands. If fiscal sanity returned to many cities, more owners would be forced to go the private financing route.
