mattf2686 10-05-08, 12:06 AM Wow, great info!!
Im pretty sure the point of being on a forum such as this is for people to ask questions and others to offer help. You can find just about any information on just about any subject if you want... But that would defeat the purpose of having this site wouldnt it

Next... :(How about next time you check out the entire thread that's devoted to the HDTV in question? You could have googled the HDTV as well for reviews. Sorry for being rude but I just wanted to let you know how easy it was to get info on the HDTV in question. Don't worry, I made the same mistake as well.
mattf2686 10-05-08, 12:22 AM Im not about to sift through 170+ pages of banter about who knows what, trying to find the answer to a question that could be answered rather quickly by 2-3 knowledgeable responses to this thread.
I just got done answering other peoples dumb questions for 10 hours... Id like to ask a few now:):D

I just got done answering other peoples dumb questions for 10 hours... Id like to ask a few now:):DLets put it this way, if you can buy that HDTV for less than 1700 brand new, you would be an idiot to pass up on the deal. Check out Cnet's review on that particular model.
mattf2686 10-05-08, 12:36 AM Lol... Believe me, im not passing it up... im just looking for info.
btw im getting it for less than $1000;)

wow, seriously, just buy it, at below $1000 it's a no brainer, you shouldnt even bother registering on the forum to ask about it.
just be sure to put it on thx mode and dont have too much light coming into your room of viewing.
i understand some BBs have Magnolia stores where they carry higher-end stuff, including the Pioneer kuros. are there any similar deals for you on these units? if so, then you may want to do more research before deciding on a particular model. if not, and the deal only pertains to the 800U, buy it and buy it fast.

Naw nothing on Kuro's... this is a Panasonic accommodation that comes around every once in a while and disappears fast too. Theres similar deals on the 42PX80U, 42PZ80U, 50PX80U, 42PZ85U as well...
And just to clarify, im going to buy the TV, i already decided that today when i heard about it... i just have to sell my 32" Sammy so i dont drain my bank account waiting for the $700 in the rebate to come back... who knows how long that will take
How do the 50PX80U and the 50PZ800U compare?

You know a simple tool like the search button would yield you great information in a shorter amount of time then getting flamed by posting comments like that.
THX is basically calibrated and certified by Lucas film. It means best of best can be certified.
THX mode is among settings, like vivid, standard....
Guaranteed picture would be +-5% of what they saw in the mastering studio. You would get exact same experience that studio does.
THX mode is intended for in a dark room.

I bet it cost you a little more than that. BTW, isn't that a violation of Best Buy's confidentiality agreement? I would keep things like that to yourself and other Best Buy employees.
And why don't you just go ask the guys in the HT department about the TV? Hopefully, they would have an idea about how good that TV is.
coltsfreak18 10-06-08, 05:54 PM THX mode is a preset mode (standard, vivid, game, etc.) that has very accurate primary colors and somewhat accurate secondary colors. Even though the gamma and color temperature isn't amazing, it is a great preset which is probably more accurate than anything (except pure mode on the elite kuros) any other MFR offers.
ainlawls 10-06-08, 07:22 PM It doesn't take long to get the rebate, throw it on a best buy card and you'll have the rebate before you have to pay any interest.
Also, just get the 85, the THX mode doesn't mean anything. You can find the settings for that THX mode online.
I think its a quick way to get a reasonably accurate picture, but you might not like a picture that's accurate to the industry standards. Most of the people I know hate the way a D65 calibrated TV looks, and prefer a bright picture with a higher color temperature and saturated colors.
bluewaves 10-06-08, 08:13 PM Yes it is a violation of the confidentiality property at best buy to post info like that online, apparently his promotion to customer is coming soon.
THX certification is a lot of marketing bs, I personally do not like the THX setting on the new panasonics, its quite dull and still requires a good bit of tweaking
