View Full Version : I Just got a free Panny TH-50pz700u
Andrew911tt 10-05-08, 12:27 AM Hello everyone I just got a free Panasonic TH-50pz700u from work, it's so freaking awesome. I was going to buy a TH-50pz800u so I just saved $2000+
I have to say it looks great right now, and will look great when my Digital Video Essentials: HD Basics [Blu-ray] comes and I can calibrate it.
I just ordered a monoprice Product ID: 3725 (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082806&p_id=3725&seq=1&format=2) mount and hope it will turns out well.

Then register the TV with Panasonic right away, but with you as the owner. They only warranty the TV to the original purchaser and a few guys here who have gotten TVs from their employer were denied warranty work because they weren't the original purchaser so maybe this will help if you need to get warranty work later.

Are you sure about that? The only company that I know of that does that is Hitachi, on there warranty card it states that the original purchaser is only covered. I did call Hitachi and ask what if I give something as a "gift" and they said it would be covered.

Congrats. I don't think anyone can beat that price. Enjoy your set and now you have some extra money to build your home theater with. :)

Over the past 3 or so years i remember posts from two members about not being able to get warranty repairs on Panasonics that they got from their employers, and were unable to get the original receipt from their company and thinking how it was such a chickenshiit way of getting out of having to pay for repairs.
"This Limited Warranty is extended only to the original purchaser and only covers product purchased as new. A purchase receipt or other proof of the original purchase date is required for Limited Warranty service."
Cleveland Plasma 10-05-08, 03:22 PM "and only covers product purchased as new." LOL looks like Panasonic covered open boxed items to if a dealer writes the invoice as "open box".

I think the issue is having a receipt or other proof of purchase date. Without a receipt there's no proof when the set was purchased and I don't know of any place that will warranty a product without a receipt. Panasonic also is pretty loose as they don't stipulate that their set has to be purchased from an authorized retailer but I can see why they would want a receipt.

I don't think that warranties cover pre-production models, and it's not really a gift I have to do real world testing and find out if any problems pop up over the life of the TV.

Whats funny about that is that I started on Mon Sep 29 and got the TV on Fri the 3rd so I don't think I will be fired any time soon

Pre production model? It's last years model and why is it being tested?
Andrew911tt 10-06-08, 02:50 AM I really do have to do real world testing (watching it everyday and run some small test) and find out if any problems pop up over the life of the TV.

Getting a pre-production TV to test as part of your job is not the same as your employer giving you a free TV (like a bonus etc).
Andrew911tt 10-06-08, 10:45 AM Yea, but to me it mostly works out to the same thing because there is only a very small chance that i will have to give it back

Why do you call it a pre production model if it's a PZ700? and what exactly are you testing for and why? Pretty cool that you get to use a new TV but seems to be a lot of detail missing from this.
