I am brand new to projectors, and I really like the deal on this refurbished 8600. I am about to pull the trigger, but have a connection question. I am sorry if this is really basic, but as I said I am new to projectors. The specs say that the input is "DVI with HDCP". What exactly does that mean. I have a Pioneer 94 receiver which is HDMI 1.3. Can I run the video out from the receiver to the 8600 using HDMI and some sort of adaptor? I would hate to go with a lesser projector, just because it has HDMI, if it really doesn't matter.
Thanks!
Greg
You will be fine but you'll need a DVI-HDMI adapter. They are pretty inexpensive.

Monoprice.com is your friend, great quality and great prices. :D

Thanks
Is there a degradation of signal if I go with an adaptor, vs going with a HDMI to DVI cable from the start?

Adapters can cause issues , most don't but they can , I always suggest going with the right cable vs. using adapters when possible ;) .

A little off-topic from the OP, but I just noticed that the company selling the black & silver versions of this projector are now only listing the silver. I'm guessing they are finally getting through the inventory. If so, I suggest acting soon if you want to buy.
Unfortunately, my basement won't be ready for months, as I get it ready in my spare time (missing this one and both Planar deals). I am hoping something similar pops up again by the time I'm finally ready.

Thanks guys. Does anyone know if the 8600 can operate safely at high altitudes. I am in the Denver area (5200').

I thought I would post here instead of creating another topic about the same projector.
I bought a couple of these projectors and at first they both worked perfect for the first 10hrs i was using it with an dvi-to-hdmi cable to my PS3. But then I wanted to use it with my PC, i used the same dvi-to hdmi cable and everything went smoothly.
Now here's where the headaches begin. When I hooked up my ps3 back to my projector again, I got no image. I was using the exact same cables, same everything. I tried my other projector, got the same deal, no image was coming up. The projectors can read the signal, it doesn't say "No Signal" underneath the DVI note on the top right of the screen. And my PS3 detects the projector as well. But, i'm getting no image. I have 3 other different hdmi-to-dvi cables as well as the hdmi-to-dvi adapter that came with the projectors. Still no luck.
I read around the internet and it seemed like I had a HDMI handshake issue on my…hands. But I tried all the solutions regarding how to solve the hdmi handshake issue with the PS3 and still got no image. Now you might be thinking…there has to be something wrong with one of the 3 hdmi-to-dvi plugs. But there isn't because I'm able to use any one of those plugs when I hook up my PC to the projector with zero problems. And there's nothing wrong with the PS3 cause I can hook it up to another hdmi tv I have with no problems.
Why is it that hdmi-to-dvi works perfectly with my PC and not with my PS3 anymore? When the first 10hrs I used my projectors I was using the PS3 with no trouble. I've tried a lot of ways to figure out why my projector can't see the ps3 image. And I have a good feeling that there's a very dumb and simple solution to this problem, cause it makes absolutely no sense to me why it's not working.
I'm hoping some owners of this projector have some idea of how to solve this issue if they've come across this before. Is there a special way you have to order the way you power on the ps3 and projector? I've tried it both ways and I had no luck. Is there a way to reset the projectors internal settings or something? I've tried using the menu's 'reset' and 'readjust' buttons and didn't help.
I'm completely out of ideas and I thought I would post up here before calling up marantz themselves and getting some feedback from them. I'm really hoping someone in here has the miracle solution, would really appreciate the help. Thanks!
