Other than lamp life, is there a major problem with reliabilty in going used for a lower end projector? I was thinking something like the W500 or HD65 or HC1500. Is it worth it to save a couple of hundred dollars?

It really depends on whether there's a warranty or not. No warranty = complete crap shoot.

The problem is that you do not know if the bulb was abused by the user. If the bulb goes in 100 hours you are out another $300

Redskin, if you'd be interested in a 3 month old, never abused HC1500 with the Mack Bulb warranty for cheap, shoot me a PM.

Other than lamp life...
Lamp life is the most important factor. Someone can have reset the counter after 1500 hours and you'll never find out about it until the lamp blows after a short period of time. It's the most expensive replaceable part of a lower end projector so only risk it if you know 100% sure that the lamp counter hasn't been reset.

If you are like me and worry about the reliability of used items (with no warranty the costs are higher to repair than what the projector is usually worth, not to mention shipping costs). Then for peace of mind, I buy new, especially , projectors!
I waited and found the Planar Pd7060 for $900 thanks to gwlaw99. Just recently the Planar PD7130 was for $599 thanks to this forum. Both recently cost in the $$$ and have 2 year warranties and now I have peace of mind:)

I got an NEC LT260K from a place called mmcb-video.com It works good. No problems so far. They have decent prices and they do have a guarantee. Beats ebay or Craigslist.

Is it true that you should look for an LCD with inorganic as opposed to organic panels?
