Just trying to get some input in whether or not a fixed offset projector will work in this room. Picture is attached.

Ceiling Height: 7' 1"
Soffit: Hangs down 8.5"
Top of screen(viewing area): 5" below soffit
Projector throw distance: ~ 10' 6"
Viewing distance: ~ 11'

Looking forward to some input!

Thanks.

I would say no unless you want an extremely small screen. Some older Infocus projectors have no offset and they might work, but I suggest sticking to LCD.

Based on an assumption of an 84" diagonal screen and if you can change your throw to about 10'4", the Optoma HD65 will work fine from a ceiling mount.

my screen is 92" diagonal

the reason I ask is because I'm interested in the Sharp DT-510. I'm admittedly unclear on all the offset stuff.

That's a good one and it will work too. You will probably need to shelf mount it.

And, the Optoma will work for 92" also.

If you use this calculator, http://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm, the chart generated will show you the projector and screen alignment based on the PJ offset. The Sharp points directly at the center of the screen, the Optoma shows an offset of about 8.5 inches for the 92" screen.

Recon, thank you for your input.

With the HD65, the center of the lens need to be about 8.5" from the top of the screen...will that soffit not interfere with the projected image?

Are you aware of any height adjustable ceiling mounts?

Are you aware of any height adjustable ceiling mounts? If you get out the graph paper and a ruler and plot where the PJ will be and the soffit and screen, your image will shoot right under the soffit no problem. if you were mounting the PJ about 4 feet from the screen, it might be a problem!

The ceiling mount I use came from mountdirect.com and comes with a 6" extension and if needed they have up to a 2 foot extension you can buy optionally - for those vaulted ceiling folk. The mount itself will put the center of the lens about 5 inches from the ceiling already. That puts you very nearly in the right place anyway.
