I am about ready to pull the trigger on a 8600. Obviously in the near future, I will be going Bluray, but for a little while, I am standard def accross the board. As of right now, I have Denon 2200 DVD player, which was a pretty good player in its day. It outputs at 480i or 480p.

Does anyone know if it would be worth it to purchase a cheap upconverting DVD player for the short term, or does the Marantz do a pretty good job of taking the DVD signal and processing it?

The Marantz does a good job of upconverting, better than the cheap DVD players.

Thanks Bob,

The more I read about this projector (which isn't much), the more I like it. It looks like I would do much better with this one than the current production 720p projectors like the Epson 720 or the Panasonic 200.

One more dumb question. So would I feed the projector the 480i or 480p setting from my DVD player?

Thanks again.

I'm not sure what processing is in the Denon to make an educated guess. I'd try both and see which does the better job.

Well I did it. I just ordered a refurb for under $800 shipped. I really like the throw distance and lens shift flexibility. This will allow me to wall mount it behind me. I think I did pretty well for a first projector. I am really pumped!
