i only played it for about 3 hours last night and so far i'm liking it. unlike some of the other posters i like all the clutter and multiple ways to get around. we all know Treyarch could have really screwed it up. so they chose to stay close to the tried and true and maintain a familiar feel .
i had gotten tired of cod4 anyway having 1000 achievement points in career mode and being 10th prestige for so long, i had to bust out cod2 to play for awhile. no doubt i'll still play cod4 but i'll fully enjoy W@W.

I finally got my beta code from gg and got a few games in last night. I have really only liked one fps series(halo of course)until one of my buddies let me borrow cod4 and i have to say it was very addicting i was hooked right off. Now with cod5(I know its still just the beta) I have to say it just didn't have the same effect. Yes the controls and the smoothness of cod4 is still there but it just seems like something is missing.I'm gonna try to get back on tonight unlock some more weapons and stuff and give it another shot but as of right now I will be sticking with cod4 for a while.

As an avid CoD3 MP player, I've been reading this thread regularly. If anyone get's a code to share, let me know. I'm chomping at the bit to get back into the WWII era, MP, with vehicles. Even though CoD3 had its haters, I loved it.

Personally I think a lot of people will buy cod5 and the best part of it will be the 4 player co op over live. After that I'm expecting people to go back to cod4 pretty quickly.

I'm enjoying it. I like the maps more than the desert setting of COD4. So far the gun I like is the Thompson. How do I get the aperture site? I get pissed every time someone kills me with it since I don't have it:mad:. I didn't play much COD4 mp so this is fresh to me.

Gotta get I think 75 kills w/ the gun then you get the aperture. You can check your progress under barracks>challenges>smg

Yeah I thought the Thompson was almost unusable without stopping power on, I'd wound a guy, reload and then try to finish them. At least now they've given us a hardcore mode which eliminated that issue.

You got me there! I was aware of it when it came out (2003?) but for some reason, it was just off the radar for me. The last PC based FPS's I remember finishing were Half Life 2 and DoomIII, probably around that same time-frame.

Come to think of it, I've skipped all of the "realistic war-based" FPS games and kind of stuck to the occult, fantasy stuff (Doom, all of the Quakes, Alice, Painkiller, Wolfenstein, etc) I've missed out on some good stuff for sure, but that's why WWII is still brand new to me.

I've been following the COD4 thread from the beginning and really been wanting to hook up with you guys - mostly because you've got a similar philosophy about it; I like to win but I'm not going to let that stop me from having a couple beers and having fun when I play. I think my KD ratio may reflect that :) (I got my good nights and bad nights)

The thing is that I've got a local buddy that hops on about the same time I do and we go into chat, team up, and go hardcore for a couple of hours. Staying in chat makes us kind of anti-social (even though we're laughing and cussing amongst ourselves). We'll break chat if there's a team killer on the team and we want to see what the heck is going on. Anyway, you get the idea. I haven't wanted to dis my friend on the COD time....

I got the beta downloaded last night so I will give it a try tonight. I'm actually pretty excited about this game since CoD4 was my first in the series. So this will actually be my first experience with WWII theme.

FYI those who haven't played the beta in a bit. They moved the cap up to 44. Though quite honestly I'm bored with it. Seems like I've been there and done that.

Yeah LOL I was getting ready to get into the groove and grind it out..and I got that feeling. Didn't I do this 10x on COD4? LOL. It just doesn't seem rewarding enough? I haven't really been pumped up about playing cod4 in months. The only time I really play is when my one of my friends is online. I think I am only like 14 in cod5. I play more tf2 than I do either of the cod games. If only they released a cod type game set in the shadowrun universe. Then i'd grind the shyt out of the game just to see what the weapons were like..

I just rewired my dsl connection.. I seem to get more 4 green bar cod5 games now.. Once I get the proper dsl splitter to slap into my nid box I am sure my connection will be even better. I miss living in a city/town.. Out here i'm lucky to even get broadband.

I concur. Sniping with the deagle , running around with embarassing weap combos to humiliate your opponent(uzi, acog, sleight of hand, steady aim) and just plain knifing. I dont' think duty 4 will get old..and besides with christmas coming up we can feast on n00bs as the uncool parents will buy the cheaper call of duty hahahahhahahahah

I played the PC beta a bit tonight. It's OK, but it's not something I'd buy.

I have both beta versions and I really enjoy way more the 360 version than the PC even if the PC can support higher res etc... COD4 & 5 are the only shooters that I (IMO) "feel" better (control wise) on the 360. all other games feel better on the PC-(HL2, Far cry2, FEAR.....)

If anyone has a code for the 360 version that they're willing to part with, I'd GREATLY appreciate it. I've been trying to get in for a while now. :(

Agreed. The single player campaign so far might be my favorite of the CoD series so far. The presentation is top notch and the variety of gameplay and attacking techniques is really cool and intense. Forget any stupid tutorial intro stages...you are throw into the fire immediately.

Flamethrower rocks. The story telling between the two stories may also be the best yet.

I agree with you on that. Annoying and lasts way too long. I understand they were going for a "COD4 Helicopter attack" effect, but for whatever reason it just feels way more annoying.

I have mixed feelings on the game also. Kind of fun, kind of like COD4, kind of different, kind of annoying, kind of blah... Not in any particular order.

The copters were fine because the copters had a reasonable amount of difficulty to take out and it'd only effect one section of the map. the dogs go everywhere can't be taken out from a distance and really just suck the life out of the game.

well then that's great man IMO they suck and = no purchase from me. then again activision's entire business plan kind of pisses me off so not activision purchases either this holiday.

Played the beta. Kinda feel like a CoD 4 mod. Not bad just a decent mod.

Almost like they said to themselves "Alright we got this sweet game model from IW lets not mess with the formula and **** it up this time."

I'll wait for a price drop, just too many other amazing games right now.

the second chance is actually ALOT of fun if you have a bunch of people using it with you. you can revive down team mates the only problem is your very very vulnerable while you revive them. but imagine if you whole team was using it and was reviving each other...

I've never been bitten when stabbing one of the doggies.. The only time I have been killed is when I have had my sound way down or when I was trying to run around like rambo while they were out. The first time I attempted to stab a dog I thought (no way it can't be this easy to kill em).. Well it is. Unless your connection is horrible or you're in a game with a terrible host you should have no probs stabbing them.. If you have the baoynet perk it makes it even easier. I personally don't use the perk but if you're having troubles stabbing the little buggers it may help.

I have had 6 dogs came at me back to back.. I felt sorry for them. IMHO at least in FFA I'd much rather had dogs running around than a heli. I can see how in a team game the dogs would be more annoying though. Esp if in cod4 when you're in a team that is communicating and everyone opens a can of whoop azz on the heli.. It doesn't last long.

I won't be buying this for a couple months... Not unless I can trade in some of the games I already own and get some sorta deal.

I bought it at work (best buy) today as my manager let me. The SP campaign is the best in the whole series. Very cool with surround sound too. I haven't tried the MP yet as my Fios router's LAN switch took a **** so no online for me. I don't have the cash for a Wireless adapter for it so I'm going to wait until I get a new router from verizon.

Anyone have a good source @ Toys R Us? They have a free $15 GC with purchase; however, their ad says in stores before 5PM on 11/13, that is 2 days later than everyone else so I'm curious if it's a misprint or of they are otherwise holding out on the title. Either laydown or stand against some structure that can support the weapon and a prompt will show up ask you to press X to deploy.

I picked up this game yesterday around 5pm at my local gamestop, did not have it pre ordered or anything because i never see a point in pre ordering a game (They will always have copies).

Anyways, i agree with one of the above posters, this is the absolute best SP campaign out of all the series. The graphics are awesome, the story is awesome, the controls are awesome, and it's just a lot of fun. The SP Campaign is very fun, it's so chaotic and actually makes you feel like your in the war. I feel more immersed in this then i ever did with COD4.

MP is great too, all though with me personally, i buy games for the SP Campaign with MP only being the icing on the cake.

My local TRU had it in stock today. I picked it up around 12:30pm.
