I upgraded from those as well. They didn't fit your needs? haha.

I went with a great set

http://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-DT-880-Premium-Headphones/dp/B000F2BLTM

they retail at the $350 to $400 level so and they sound f*cking amazing.

To help with the surround sound part of it I bought the Astro Mixamp which converts Dolby Digital into stereo channels but it still has surround sound qualities to it which helps with gaming like in COD4 for instance.

http://astrogaming.com/products/detail/5/A40_MixAmp/ expensive but worth it and this combo kills the AX360s or turtle beach by far.

EDIT: You can buy a Zalman clip-on mic for like $10 and it works great.

codester has the best method, but in the end its more of a pain dealing with everything, and the initial cost is a little high.

just get the whole A40 system from astro.

Is that the Zm-Mic1 (http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Microphone-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone/dp/B00029MTMQ/)?

Do you need the mixamp, or can you plug that mic into a 360 controller's headphone jack and go into the dashboard and request incoming voice be mixed through speakers/headphones?

Won't take much to beat the Trittons..:) I'd recommend a 880 plus a mix amp.. The headphones will cost you 188 on amazon. The mixamp is around 130.. But the difference will be huge.

you just have to convert the 3.5mm jack to 2.5mm

and fyi, xoxide has it for like 5.99, not sure of shipping charges though.

Very cool, thanks forumulanerd!

Sorry to threadjack, but I would like to clarify what I want to do:
I currently use a JVC Dolby Headphone unit connected to a 360 with my Beyer-Dynamic 770 headphones. So to add mic support with this setup, all I need is the Zalman Mic + one of these guys (http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-Jack-2-5mm-Adapter/dp/B0002ZPFAS/), plug just the mic+adapter into my 360 controller's headphone jack (in my case the ION Rock Band drum kit), and tell the dashboard to mix incoming voice chat through "speakers" (headphones)?

Does anyone actually do something like this, and can verify it works as I described? If so... then "awesome"!
