I'm looking for any advice and recommendations on a multi-zone audio server, (looking for 4 zones) to team up with a Crestron Adagio Entertainment System AES for multi-zone home audio.
I'd like 4 zones, a large capacity (have somewhere around 1,200+ CD's) in a high quality lossless format, some type of backup capability. I plan to put the AES and the audio server in the family room so, I'd like a quiet system. Also the audio server must support 2 way meta data and control by the AES, and related controls in the house. I'm NOT looking for a PC based system, and this will be installed by a CI.
From what I can tell the main options are:
Crestron AAS-4, 4 stream media server, I would use this with a NAS such as Netgear ReadyNas Pro. From what I understand the only lossless format the AAS supports is wav, so some serious external storage would be needed. Using the NAS with raid would allow for some redundancy, and I could also use it as a storage for some other pc's on the network.
Audo Request F4.1200 with a ARQuive backup unit. The Audio Request supports flac, and the arquive would allow for backup.
Any thoughts on the AAS-4 vs. F4.1200?
I can't find anything else that meets these needs. [From what I can tell, Elan and Niles don't have the storage capacity, and Escient doesn't support 4 zones of output.] Are there other options that would meet these specs? What are their advantages/disadvantages?
Thanks
