CRT should work fine, it is only an 80" screen and the room is almost 20' deep.

Both the PJ's you have are pretty easy to set-up. The easiest ones are the Barco's and Electrohome Marquee's. the Marquee's and higher ended Barco's like 808/1208 etc. have built in on-screen menu's that walk you through it, not sure about the 701? Niether of your sets will bu super sharp but they will resolve 1080i, just barely.
The closest thing to "automatic set-up is Barco Iris2 or Marquee ACON systems, but they still require a little mechanical adjustment to point the outer tubes in-line with green.
Patrick 1978 10-13-08, 12:48 PM Hello guys thanks for the quick replay so what is a Barco iris2.and the crt projector that i have can they`produce 720p and 1080i fine or with problems.i was thinking to buy a Nec PG from curt but later on the most say that nec is hard to set up.

Patrick 1978 10-13-08, 01:01 PM I never have seen a nice CRT setup only digital pj.but i had a marantz vp-s3 good pj but i got the feeling that somthing is missing more black level and the deep colors am i right i don,t wane start a debate wich one is better dlp lcd crt bla bla if i need to buy one that can stick with me for atleast 4 -5 years glad two hear your opion people thanks and regards patrick
Brooklyn 10-13-08, 02:27 PM Necs are harder to set up, but if you are patient it is not bad. And realize you only have to set up the projector once. I had a barco 801s and it had the walk through menu's for setting up, so your might as well. In choosing which of the 2 you have to set up, I'd choose whichever one has less hours/tube wear.
draganm 10-13-08, 02:47 PM Hello guys thanks for the quick replay so what is a Barco iris2. it's an optional camera that attaches to front of PJ and automajically converges it. Iris 2 is very rare, I have only seen a few in 5 years.
and the crt projector that i have can they`produce 720p and 1080i fine or with problems.1080i yes, 720 p no
i was thinking to buy a Nec PG from curt but later on the most say that nec is hard to set up.
regards patrick NEC and sony are not a good place to learn CRT IMO

grogthegreat 10-13-08, 05:04 PM My first projector was a Sony 1252 followed by a NEC 9PG+. I found their setup to be time consuming and involved but with all the info out there I had no trouble setting them up. I will say that my first CRT setup ever (sony 1252) wasn't very sharp or perfectly converged but my second attempt was much better and I got it almost perfect on my third time. At that point I switched to the NEC and got a great setup my first try becuase I had gotten a feel for how CRTs are set up in general.
In conclusion, don't let setup difficulty be a large factor. Once you learn it and get a good setup you don't have to do it again until you move.

Fellenz 10-13-08, 05:18 PM Draganm,
The 800 will do 720p. Here's a screenshot Kal took of his 800 (at 720p)
http://www.curtpalme.com/kal/BG800_720P_04.jpg
draganm 10-13-08, 05:27 PM that's a pretty good screen capture, it must have been set up really well to resolve 720 lines out of the 07MP ES focus tubes.
Curt Palme 10-13-08, 06:37 PM Set up both Barcos first, get used to the setup and know it inside and out. Once you've mastered the BArcos, then the NECs and Sonys will be simple (er). :)
PeriSoft 10-13-08, 10:39 PM that's a pretty good screen capture, it must have been set up really well to resolve 720 lines out of the 07MP ES focus tubes.
It could have been resolving 400 lines and looked exactly the same in the shot. Not saying it wasn't resolving 720, but there's no way to tell from a screenshot that's not at least 2x the resolution in question.
Patrick 1978 10-14-08, 02:37 AM That looks awsome dude nice image. think your right might use the barco graphics 800 would you guys recomend using the HDFURY2.i have a blu-ray and HD-DVD player.and a noob question if my screen is 205cm what is the distance for the Crt to hang on the ceiling.I love home cinema and avs thanks guys
PS i think CRT is AN ADICTION lol
Patrick 1978 10-14-08, 03:05 AM Oke i was checking out curts website and i have a couple of options i think.on 1 side you have HD fury and on the other side you have MOOME etc etc you have all the input cards for sony and Marquese and nec but you don,t have it for barco oke options guys thanks
Mark_A_W 10-14-08, 04:00 AM Hello Mr Spelling.
Honestly, if you want some advice, at least have the courtesy to spell correctly.
And some punctuation and capitals would be nice too.
Everybody else manages...
Patrick 1978 10-14-08, 04:14 AM Hello Sir i am sorry.Because your spelling is so good.I am at work plus i don,t use the English writing, that much anymore.I cannot us other language like SPANISH GERMAN OR DUTCH.
THANKS AND REGARDS MARK
astrobart 10-14-08, 04:33 AM Patrick check out www.htforum.nl , a lots of information about CRT pj and more, in dutch
draganm 10-14-08, 11:30 AM Oke i was checking out curts website and i have a couple of options i think.on 1 side you have HD fury and on the other side you have MOOME etc etc you have all the input cards for sony and Marquese and nec but you don,t have it for barco oke options guys thanks
For a Barco Moome external will be best. The fury is a cheap solution but not that great. Of course I really like the internal cards but you need a Marquee, sont, or NEC for that. BTW, I think your spelling is fine, mine isn't much better and I don't type in Spanish at all ;)
Cinenut 10-15-08, 04:19 AM I have Iris3 on my Barco 708s. It's amazingly convenient if you're a newb, and can in fact do a very impressive convergence job if your mechanical setup is good. I can't imagine how much further automation would have come if CRT was still market king!
It could have been resolving 400 lines and looked exactly the same in the shot. Not saying it wasn't resolving 720, but there's no way to tell from a screenshot that's not at least 2x the resolution in question.
Scanlines were definitely touching at 720p on this projector, but just touching. 720p was really the high limit you'd want to run, especially given the 26,000 hours on the chassis (tube hours unknown, probably at least 6-7K).
PeriSoft's right that screenshots like this aren't very useful. I can say that because I took the shots. ;)

Brooklyn 10-15-08, 01:36 PM And for this new guy, he should really be using 1080i anyway.
Sure, given that all (most) sources are 1080i nowadays. HDTV is 1080i and Blu-ray will look great at 1080i too on either projector.

draganm 10-15-08, 02:47 PM That looks awsome dude nice image. think your right might use the barco graphics 800 would you guys recomend using the HDFURY2.
Wow, I just noticed the new HD Fury 2 is actually shipping out  Anyone tried this thing yet or compared it to a Moome device? Perspring minds want to know?
Patrick 1978 10-15-08, 02:48 PM Hello people.Sorry for the late respons and thanks for the info guys.and you DRAGANM for the info.I don,t really care about 1080p Because 720p or 1080i will do just fine y gues??? or is the difference a lot between these resolution?? oke i will look at the MOOME BOX, the moome will have a HDMI entrance and a RGBHV exit right
1080i and 1080p are both 1920x1080 resolution.
1080p refeshes the image 60 times/second.
1080i refeshes the image 30 times/second.
Film is shot at 24 frames/second. Video at 30 frames/second.
Both 1080i and 1080p have plus's and minus's. In most cases they'll look very similar, on your projectors it's a moot point as they won't do 1080p.
