I have a chance to get a Sony VPL-AW15 for under $900 bucks. Is it worth it? Brand new in the box.
I have a dedicated theater room in the basement therefore light control isn't an option.
Any help is greatly appreciated...

A quick Google of this projector yielded the following information:
- This is a 720p projector
- Normal street prices range from about $950 up to MSRP ($1,399)
If you're in the market for a $1K 720p projector, there's a Planar projector that's gotten a lot of attention on this site.
But I think if you've saved up $1K and have a working display, why not save up $500 more and then look at the lower-end 1080p units, which will be more future-proof?

BigAveI think brightness was one of the issues most talked about in the specific thread but since you are in the basement, that should not be a problem. The other issue if I remember correctly was the LCD - screendoor effect was a little more obvious on this PJ than on others but many others said they didn't see it.
Do you have PJ now or will this be your first?

First projector. I missed out on both of the 7060 and the 7130 Planar. I look everyday for deals and ran across this one today. I also missed out on the Mits HC1500 earlier this summer. Just trying not to miss out on anymore.

BA, I have this PJ; it was my first. It is well-reviewed and has a nice, movie-like image, IMO; good blacks for an LCD, and rich color. Two things to definitely watch for: one, it's no light-cannon, so a dark room really helps. Two, I find SDE to be quite pronounced; again, my first pj, so I don't have anything to compare it against, but I notice it easily from too close a distance. If you have a light-controlled room, and can observe a 1.8 distance seating rule, I think you'll be happy with this PJ at that price.
Good luck,
CD

BigAveIf you were considering the HC1500, have a look at the Sharp DT-510 over on TigerDirect.
