Does anyone have experience with playing video games through a Lumagen HDP? I'm considering a purchase, but I understand that it doesn't have a specific low latency mode for this type of thing.

So I'm wondering how the latency is - bad for games, noticeable but not too bad, unnoticeable?

Thanks,

-Matt

For a video game, such as a Wii, you will have the lowest latency if you set send the LumagenHDP component 480p.

1. Set the HDP output to 480p by pressing "Menu 021".
2. Then set the HDP to pass mode by pressing "Menu, IN, CONFIG, ADJ, SIZE, SCALE, PASS, Ok". This turns off scaling in the HDP if the input and output modes are exactly matched.
3. Make sure that you "Save" the new settings.

This will give you a very low latency of about 20mS through the HDP.

We have a video game mode on our list of features that are planned for the Lumagen Radiance. The video game mode will have extremely low latency and we want to have support for a square pixel mode for 240p legacy video game systems.

It would be great to see some progress in this regard. I have an EDGE but am considering supplementing it with an HDP or HDQ for various reasons. A gaming mode (and 240p support) that makes it's way to this series would pretty much seal the deal for me...

A good 240p mode and the lowest possible latency for game sources are both features I will be paying attention to the next time I upgrade my VP. There's no current overall VP that gets an A on both of those. Good low-ringing scaling is also much more important for videogames than for DVDs due to the prevalence of sharp-edged onscreen displays and menus, and Lumagen already leads there.
