Are 1209s good? What about the sharpness and picture quality? Is it hard to upgrade the tubes? What about finding tubes on the market?

Thanks!

Tubes are P19LCP so replacements won't be too hard to find, I believe they can also be fitted with P19LUG tubes.

Not sure on sharpness but it rates between a Marquee 9000 and a 10PG on the ranking sheet. I would expect it would look ok with 1080p60

No continuous scheimpflug

Can continuous scheimpflug be added to a 1209?

Three new tube housings, plus related hardware - possibly easier to
find a 1209S and enjoy the newer circuit designs also....

Sharper, brighter, better contrast ANSI but the colors will be worse unless the 1209 has colored C-elements

let's not forget it's a 9"er..... it would absolutley smoke a 1272

You saw the one on Craigslist?

Did you buy it?

Just FYI, I found a Runco DTV-1100 (1209s with colored c-elements) on craigslist recently. Snagged it for $600.00! I would have paid at least 1200 for it and that is way over my HT budget. There is a huge difference compared to my 1272! Go get it!

The 1209 can be modified to be a much better machine.

The 1209 has true 130MHZ neck cards where the 1209s has really only 85MHZ. Once the mods are complete a 1209 will be a much sharper image over a 1209s. The convergance software is not as good but if you get a converge on green module for the 1209 then you will be ready to go.

Also I have many customers who thread small screws in the lens of the 1209 so its not necessary to change out to the S Assembly's.

My recommendation is to get the 1209 over the 1209s actually.

You can go to my website to look at the 7 board mod set for that .

Greg...so I should be on the lookout for some neck boards out of a 1209 for my colour corrected 1209s?

Yes Greg, Which neck boards do we want to get instead of the ones that came with my Runco 1100? I'd like to do your mods when the funds become available.

Yes, it's the one on craigslist. But I didn't buy it nor contacted the seller. I'll check my wallet :(

If it's the one in Chicago, with a $?, I e-mailed the person. I was told he would let it go for 6K. For that Curt has better deals, with better tubes.

But it might be nice, depends on who rates the tubes.

Actually here is a snippet of his email to me: "I am expecting a lot for it. I would start negotiating at $5000."

Actually I bowed out of this since what I would be willing to offer would be MUCH less than this amount. Hopefully he gets a good price from his perspective but I would not hold my breath for that.

Those of us that find these machines appealing are watching the price of these gems drop over time (and a bunch over the last 2 years). Give it 4 or 5 years and you may be hard pressed to give away a decent 9" projector...let's hope so because I'm a cheap skate and have been Jonesing for a Barco Cine9 or Mike's new acquisition the Runco DTV-1200.

Prices remain strong for CRT because its the king!!

I am still getting good prices for projectors with mods and new tubes.

**Someone asked me to post about the schemflug mod for a 1209

Basically take the lens out and most not all of the HD-120 have extra holes in them. If not you will have to drill some small holes 4 total. I can take pictures.

Take a screw about the same size as the hole with fine threads and machine or force in the hold creating threads out of the aluminum.

Put one on the top, bottom, left side and then finally right.

Loosen the hold down screws for the lens. Then tighten the other screws to move the lens out on the side that has the defect. It might be a combination of many adjustments.

Finally tighten the top hold down screws. IT will take some time but this system works quite well.
