Hi guys,

I'm looking for a solution for my office environment. Currently we have multiple zones throughout the office with touchpads that allow employees to select the FM tuner and two different Sirus radio sources. All three of the sources are fixed to specific channels and the employees cannot change the channels. Naturally, the employees tend to complain about the lack of choices.

So my thought is to offer a web based jukebox where the employees can go to an internal website and add music to a queue that would be played over the office PA. The music would be mp3 files of greatest hit albums and the mp3 files would be "normalized" so that all of the music played at the same volume. I do not want them to have the ability to stream or download the music to their computers.

Does anyone know of any software packages that allow this kind of functionality? I have tried using "mp3act" which runs on Linux but I can't get it to play the music files. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

What about a subscription service like Rhapsody or Napster?

There's a multi-media jukebox program called Xlobby that has a web server built in and allows you to select and play files from multiple client locations. It may be overkill for your application, but it might be worth looking at. The old versions of the program used to be freeware and can still be found at this web site:

I have this set up at my home with 4 audio zones and multiple touch screens and it works quite well for me. It is highly customizable and there are numerous skins available as well as an fairly active user forum.

Are you wanting to replace the current three sources or add a fourth or ???

If you want to add a fourth source and don't mind it being a PC, you might use SqueezeCenter and SoftSqueeze running on the PC. All other PCs on the same network can view/alter the SoftSqueeze music queue by bringing up the SqueezeCenter web page.

All of this software is FREE from the SlimDevices web site so you could try it out before deciding to use it or not.

Thanks for the replies! The PC jukebox will be a fourth source and I'm keeping the other three. I really want to avoid an additional subscription service if possible.

I'll take a look at the suggested software and try them out.

Thanks again,
Nick
