Well- I wont post this in the ps3 thread but here goes:

After my last rrod (3rd) I got a ps3. Now my 360 has been fixed and returned. I have been loyal to MS thus far.

So question- My ps3 is hooked up via hdmi and my 360 via component (I own an original non-hdmi 360) on a sony sxrd 50a2000. Both look very good.

Opinions on which system to get this years big fall titles for? and why? Will hdmi make a huge difference with any particular title?

1. Fallout 3
2. Far Cry 2
3. Fable 2

I prefer the 360 controller but wow- mgs4 looks amazing at 1080p

Get it for whichever controller you prefer.

fable 2 will only be on the 360 if that matters to you... not much choice on that one.

Fable 2 is Xbox exclusive, thus that choice is clear. Fallout 3 is supposed to get exclusive content on the Xbox (like GTA 4 is going to get soon), thus you may want to consider the Xbox version for that. Far Cry 2 should be good on both systems, but if playing on line multiplar is very important, then pick the system on which more players will be playing (likely Xbox). Smilarly if achievements are important, then Xbox. Controller --> Xbox.

All games are going to look very good (and the same) on either system. I play on a 130" screen, and both systems look the same. (HDMI for PS3, VGA for Xbox)

Basically it's just a matter of seeing if the game has something exclusive on one platform, like Fallout 3's DLC for the 360.

If it doesn't then just buy it for which console you like more.

For me, I'd go 360 as I prefer that controller and, if it's a game with online, prefer X-box live as that's what my friends have and play on. Though it's moot for me since I don't own a PS3, partly for those reasons as they played a big part in deciding which to buy.

mgs4 looks amazing at 1080p

The game's rendered at 720p:D. As a matter of fact, I ended up picking up the Arcade as most of my friends are on Live and the fact that the S controller is probably the best controller for shooters on consoles.

Not to mention GoW will pawn hard. I have a PS3 too BTW.

MGS4 is 1024x768 natively rendered, not 1080p. It's the art direction and textures that make it look good.

Read the reviews on Fallout 3 and FarCry 2 to see if there is a major diff. Remember, DLC will be exclusive to the 360 for Fallout3. Fable 2 is a 360 exclusive.

I like to get on both, if its something that I would do alot of online with, I'd get the proven online system, the xbox, but if it were offline or a fighting, such as DMC, I would go with the PS3 version because I prefer the PS controller for fighting. Shooters are xbox territory. I will say though the PS3 is a preference on some because it is quieter and I think it puts off less heat, not sure about that though. Either way it will be enjoyable and hopefully in Nov we will see some noise reduction on the xbox front.

+1 on DLC and controller preference. I love my PS3, but the 360 controller trounces the DS3.

thanks all- my bad for not knowing fable 2 is 360 exclusive.

I do much prefer the 360 controller and achievements are always good. I have not tried any online gaming on the ps3.

That being said- will I see much graphical improvement using the ps3 and hdmi versus component on my 360?

I also forgot about DLC- if Fallout is like Oblivion, that would seal the deal. Oblivion had some great content.

Guess it comes down to far cry 2 or fallout. Then gow2 and resistance 2 balance out.

No, unless your tv has problems with it's component inputs. The same picture is being sent.

I'll be buying Fable 2 for 360 (obviously :)). As far as Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2 are concerned, I may skip the latter. Like every game from Bethesda, I'll buy Fallout for PC... the "FREE DLC" from fans is too good to pass up (lets face it... morrowind + oblivion were vastly improved by the modding community... especially oblivion... which needed the mods).

Ironically... my PS3 is going back to Sony for warranty work. I love it to death, and it gets used a lot for media (my primary DVD player... along with BR discs); however, the controller blows goats compared to the 360 controller. The only thing the Sixaxis/DS3 has over the 360 controller is the "D-pad." However, it's not really important for most of the games that I play (I'm not a big fighting game fan).

The only difference that would matter to me is the sound. Some ps3 games have 7.1 sound or uncompressed sound. So if sound is important to you, then some ps3 versions have better sound. I have both and usually buy for the 360. It has more online players and has achievements.

Graphics will be about the same. I had my 360 hooked up via component at 1080p before I got my new premium with hdmi..really no diff. As much as I like my ps3, as far as online goes LIVE is where its at. I do really like the dual shock cont though

AFAIK, only PS3 exclusives have lossless audio. I'm not aware of any multiplats that have anything better than DD5.1.

I didn't know that. Thanks.

IS uncharted uncompressed sound?

Yes, and it's fantastic.

As pointed out, Fable II is 360 exclusive (and really sweet! So far.).
Fallout 3 has 360-exclusive DLC and PSM magazine thinks it looks better on 360.

Speaks well to the magazine's credibility, I suppose.
