View Full Version : Samsung S5053 picture issues...

There have been a few threads on this model and the issues vary. I've had this unit for almost 2 years and it's been very good. I paid around $1800 for it and I got it from Amazon. In the past 2 months, it has had an explosion of brightly-colored pixels in the lower center of the screen when the TV is powered on. After a few minutes, this seems to settle down and the picture is okay. But now in the last week or so, I also see bright-green pixels that will outline various parts of the screen (a football-players helmet or the logo on a baseball players jersey, etc.) and the problem is completely random. When it starts to do it, it will do it for a few minutes and then stop and the picture is great. I played with some of the settings, but it keeps happening and I assume that since I see it start and end by itself, it must be a component that is failing. Anyone have the same experience or know the best solution? It's clearly out of warranty (purchased December 2006) but I think calling for service on a 2 year old $1800 unit to be insulting.

You can need service on any electronic device at any time. Not sure that service at the 2 year mark is shocking

I agree, anything can go wrong at any time. I have received brand new PCs, out of the box where the CD or DVD drive doesn't work or whatever. But I find it unreasonable for a $2k product to go bad in less than 2 years. Hopefully someone else has experienced this. It doesn't happen all the time, but you just know it will happen when I have people over for the World Series or Superbowl and there are 40 people at my house.

Ps. I should have also mentioned that at some point yesterday, I seemed to have a bunch of "stray" light green dots all over my screen. They were just blipping all over the place. This lasted about 5 minutes and then corrected itself. None of this is making me very confident in the future of this product.

It's not insulting. Your avenue of first resort should be Samsung. They may resolve your problem in a way that will be satisfactory to you.

Point taken. I have contacted Samsung and explained the problem. If there is anyone else out there who has seen this problem with their Samsung plasma (I assume it could occur on various models), please post back and tell me your experience. The bottom line is that I am a big fan of this TV and I would like it to continue to operate. Thanks.

DP: I just emailed them last night (Monday) so I expect a reply back in the next day or so. I also watched a bit of MNF last night and the unit was operating perfectly as it has about 99.9% of the time I have had it. All of this turbulence has been recent & suggests a component is ready to retire. Thanks.
