First time buyer of HD equipment here. Will purchase an LCD HDTV soon and a BD player, but I'm wondering what to do about a Power center. The only equipment hooked to this will be the HDTV and the BDP and a cable box.

Hi folks.
I'm about to hook up all my components and my new HDTV and I need a new surge protector. The issue is coax surge protection. My setup is a dual-tuner Directv DVR and both Belkin and APC only offer surge protectors with a single coaxial input. So they won't work for this job.
Surely, many of you have encountered this situation. What do you do?
Thanks!

Buy a seperate Coax online inline surge protector and install it in the basement or outside box for cable. I just ordered a high quality one (get one that is meant to be grounded) for about 20-30 ish I forget exactly. Their's threads on coax only surge protection. I think I went with the "TTi" recommended in those threads or something like that brand one over the APC model.

Here are my thoughts: If you have a surge strong enough to get past your cable box with enough remaining power to do damage to connected units, is a $30 protector going to do that much?
FWIW, I have two APC S10 units running as over and under voltage protection.

Use Panamax.

I got my coax onlyy surge protector because I had a RJ6 line going straight from a spliter to the TV so I can use the TVs QAM / HD tuner when the box is recording 2 things. So I do have a coax line that doesn't go through a box or anything but one or two splitters from the outside drop.

OK, I understand how (why) the coax would be run right to the TV. It's amazing how far we've come that I never even considered a direct coax hookup to the TV set.
Anyways. . .I would still be concerned that any spike large and long enough to do damage would not be clamped down in a meaningful way by a low two figure unit. This is based on long-ago acquired knowledge on the construction of lower-end surge protectors that could very easily be out of date.

Surge-X
If you are interested, you could read the site info at:
- APC - white papers
- Brickwall
- Surge-X
Surge-X is a non metal oxide varisitor (MOV) solution.
You can search and read on this endlessly as well as see a large amount of spirited conversation.
While I like Surge-X I have a number of other power products including APC, Brickwall, Panamax, Furman, Adcom, etc.
Good luck.

Surge-x and many other series mode systems do not protect the signal lines, where most damage comes from, IME.

lcaillo -
By "signal lines" do you mean cable/coax/telephone/ethernet lines?
If so, I agree.
I have separate protection for that stuff.

Yes.
That is good. Most people using series mode systems do not, and that is my main problem with them.
