I have a Neothings 8x4 Borrego. I have never really needed 8 inputs and thought 4 outputs would be fine. But I am looking to make a few changes and would like to have 5 outputs.

So what would happen if I used the outputs as inputs and vice versa giving me a 4x8 matrix?

You can not use the outputs as inputs and vice versa. It will not work.

Won't work...Think about the signal paths. Any Input can go to Any Output and multiple outputs, but each Output can only have one input at a time. So, you can have I1 to O1 and I1 to O2. Reverse those....You cannot have O1 to I1 and O1 to I2.

Further, if you wanted Output1(Your Input1) to Input1(Your Output1) and Input2(Your Output2) you could not. The software won't allow it as you cannot have multiple inputs assigned to a single output.
