I have a Panasonic 50PX80 getting delivered next week. I have small kids and I am concerned with them knocking it over. Wall mounting is definitely an option. However, I was wondering if anyone had ever bolted down (through the base) or secured the stand that comes with the plasma to avoid it getting tipped over. Just a thought.
My Kuro came with a stand that included the appropriate bolt down parts. I was impressed by that and think it is a GREAT idea. You should probably do it if you can, especially with children around
"Daddy daddy! The TV fell on Janie's head and she got blood on my Legos!!!!"
If the stand is like the one my pz80 came with, I'm not sure it could be done without the bolts showing.
The supports are metal, and the stand is pretty solid, so I would think bolting it down would be adequate for accident protection if you drill through the metal, but don't use bolts so big they compromise the structural intergrity. Once you get it you'll see what I mean. Shouldn't be too difficult if you don't mind seeing the bolts on top of the stand.
I think the best protection is to hang it on the wall out of reach. That's what I did. That will also keep little hands from smudging or damaging the anti-reflection coating, depending on the age of your kids. One thing about wall mounts though is most allow the tv to slide right off either side if pushed. To be even safer, thin strips of wood screwed into the drywall along each side (doesn't need much strength) will prevent this and if painted black will help hide wiring.

Why not just teach your children that around the TV is a "NO PLAY" area, which includes touching it.

Just a thought.I don't know about the current models, but previous Panasonics came with two small nylon straps that screw to a couple of small holes in the rear of the table stand and then you screw the other end of the strap to the back of the credenza or table that the TV is sitting on. This prevents the TV from tipping over forward, but doesn't prevent someone from tipping it rearward toward the wall.
But a plasma TV is a lot harder to topple over than it looks. My PX50U and PZ700U are much harder to tip forward than a large Tube TV is since the weight is centered over the stand.

Because young toddlers don't have the ability to understand that, and even when they get a bit older and can, they can't be trusted.

That works while you are in the room. As soon as you are out of sight, the "No Play" area is infiltrated by toddler temptation.

Another solution that works awesome is connecting a wire to each side of the plasma in the back (where the screws are) and anchoring each wire to the wall (using a loop screw). This will prevent the plasma from falling over.
