View Full Version : Panasonic TH42PZ80U -> Using it as PC monitor
I am using a DVI-to-HDMI connector from my PC to my Plasma. I've got a pretty decent nVidia 7800GT video card. I am having a problem getting the full 1080p resolution from my PC out to the TV.
When I use a resolution of 1920x1080, the picture is off the screen by about 50 pixels. When I mess around with the display settings on my PC, I can get it to scrunch the picture to fit, but it doesn't look very good.
Has anyone discovered the best display settings for this TV when using it as a monitor?

Have you tried using the "hd-size" option in the menu on the PZ?
lordkosc 10-21-08, 09:29 PM I am having the EXACT same issue with the SAME tv as you, I have tried a 8800gt and a 8600gt, same over-scaling.
One way around it so far is to change the output of the video card from 1080p to 1080i , and then it will fit correctly.
I am using the HDMI port1 on the TV. Via a DVI-HDMI cable.
This is a quick fix, as I really want to know how to get it to properly display 1080p in a 1:1 setting.
asaintwithastone 11-22-08, 04:31 AM Gameplay also suffers from excessive clipping at 1080p, is there something wrong with our TV's ??? same issue here with the DVI - HDMI scaling, looks somewhere between 720 and 1080 if the full screen IS 1920x1080, damnwell better be!
fotogear 11-23-08, 07:22 PM setting the graphics card at 1920x1080, 60hz, with the tv remote; menu/picture scroll all of the way down to advance picture/HD size - Size 2 should display the computer correctly. You will want to jump back to Size 1 for outher inputs/sources
RLBURNSIDE 11-23-08, 08:49 PM set it to HD size 2 and be sure to use the front hdmi port (#3)
I have the 46 and love it. use it for pc use all the time and no problems whatever. there are some websites I visit that are a bit too oversaturated in red text that don't look that sharp, but I suppose a calibration could dial that down. aside from that, I love this TV. actually haven't used cable on it once, been using it exclusively as a second monitor out using dv-hdmi from my PC in 1080p. smooth as buttah. everyone who comes over falls in love with it. I can't wait to see what next year plasmas have, e.g. neopdp or true blacks.
there's always something better..sigh. but this is pretty darn good. I have an lcd right next to it that I use for typing sometimes..but in comparison looks dull + grey

I purchased the exact same display this weekend, connecting it to a PC with a 9600GT card in it and it works perfect! DVI-HDMI connected to port 1 on the back, like others suggested, make sure you have HD Size set 2 to in the advanced menu.
I've been using this TV as a monitor off and on now for months. All has been going smoothly.
However, just yesterday when I went to change video outputs to my monitor, nothing happened. It no longer displays any video feed from my computer, no matter what I try. Has this happened to anyone? I even tried moving the HDMI cable to a different port (#3), but nothing changes.
Any ideas?
What nvidia driver are you using? You should be able to use the "resize desktop" option with the latest beta drivers from nvidia (181.22). http://www.nvidia.com/page/support.html
