View Full Version : HELP!!! Is This Overkill.... stewdawg 10-21-08, 09:49 PM I am considering a pair of MFW-15s with the addition of a MBM-12. My room is 24' x 18', my fronts are klipsch RF-63s. My system will be 100% HT,is this OVERKILL ? lalakersfan34 10-21-08, 09:51 PM Nope, not in my estimation :). I think that would be quite adequate. It wouldn't be overkill in the least - especially if you and reference level are best buddies :D bgillyjcu 10-21-08, 09:51 PM NO SUCH THING AS OVERKILL. More Spl is always a good thing.......plus having that headroom allows more tweeking thus better overall freq response! ribbit 10-21-08, 10:11 PM huh? where's the overkill? ;) fanbrain 10-22-08, 12:21 AM The MBM-12 is the only thing I think is overkill. I think you will have enough mid-bass between the dual subs and the RF-63's. Spend the MBM-12 money on room treatments or a parametric EQ. Dollars to donuts you'll have better sound with my approach. bsoko2 10-22-08, 02:21 AM The MBM-12 is the only thing I think is overkill. He needs to test the MBM before taking your advice. Just turn off the MBM and play your favorite movie clip, then turn on the MBM and replay the clip. If the MBM makes a difference, then keep it. If it doesn't, then sell it! Simple test to do. I have 2 of them:D, Bill KBMAN 10-22-08, 10:03 AM who makes the MBM 12? How much? How do, or where do you hook it up on your processor...the LFE out? cacihome 10-22-08, 10:27 AM www.hsuresearch.com goneten 10-22-08, 11:11 AM bsoko2, since you have two of the MBM 12's perhaps you can explain to the OP what differences you experienced since you added them to your system. I, myself, have two MFW-15's and I also would be interested to know what you gained, if the differences were night and day, etc. Regards, bsoko2 10-22-08, 11:50 AM bsoko2, since you have two of the MBM 12's perhaps you can explain to the OP what differences you experienced since you added them to your system. The average tower speaker is not powered and does not put out as strong a mid bass as a MBM-12. Those that do, you pay a BIG price for them. The MBM-12 are not for everbody, it has to do with how much you like your mid bass. Bill King_David 10-22-08, 11:53 AM Stronger mid bass! I have my MBM's with the mains, turned on their sides, firing forward into the room. I have lamiate floors so I get some floor bounce with the mid bass. They blend really well with the mains (Polk Monitor 10's) and my HSU 3.3's are nearfield behind the couch. My seating is 38% into the room from the back wall and that is the optimum place for good room bass. Go for it. It's easier to turn it down than to upgrade !! Kg |
