Looking for the best solution for under $1000 that gives me the ability to control 4 zones, and have either 2 or 4 sources. I have been looking @ the
Russond cas44 or the niles zr4. Does anyone have any experience with either of these devices, does anyone have any other inexpensive solutions? Looking for something that comes with the speaker/source controllers

Go with the niles. I install both russound and niles and i think the niles is the absolute best bang for your buck.

The features in this unit are amazing compared to anything else in its class. Built in tuner, stable at 4ohms, weather resistant keypads for covered porches etc. To me its a no brainer

If you don't mind used gear, keep an eye on ebay. I just picked up a I picked up a Russound PR-4Z and AP-48 for $200.

I really wanted to save the majority of my budget for the main avr, capable of atleast 5.1 and all the 4 zone sources are really expensive - and the recommended 4 zone selectors with impedance matching were in the $300's.

I have heard good things about Home Theater Direct whole-house audio solutions. Very similar to Niles equipment. They have some sub $1000 systems with keypads
