I'm going to test this shortly but curious to hear from others who may have tried this.

I'd like to use a tool like DD to create an ISO of my DVDs and store these on a network file share (using SMB/CIFS protocol).

What would it be like streaming these ISO files from the network? Will I still get all the DVD features? How will the FF and REW features work?

What are you using for playback? I use *.iso files with my XBMC and they act just like I am using an actual DVD.

Like the above poster is stating - it highly depends on what you plan to be on the receiving end of the streaming process. XBMC is probably the best I've seen for this. There are others that can do it as well like the Popcorn Hour.

I stream only .iso with my XBMC; chapters work fine, forward works fine...I sometimes have trouble with rewind.

So the fact that it's an ISO doesn't necessarily make streaming more difficult.

I intend to use Boxee (based on XBMC) for playback. I'm also curious to know about playback with VLC on my Macbook.

I stream ISO from my server to my xbox (classic) to my tv and do not have any problems either. Works just as if I put the disc in a player.
