View Full Version : What Vendor Makes Cylinders? sourbeef 10-24-08, 01:11 PM Besides SVS? I do not think I have ever seen one other mentioned on here. Did I miss something? thrand1 10-24-08, 01:39 PM I think Elemental Designs has one/will have one. Check this blog entry (http://blog.edesignaudio.com/?p=308) and their store page (http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?t=1&products_id=682) for it. Looks to be a hefty price tag for them, though :( freeflap 10-24-08, 01:48 PM The elemental designs isn't a cylinder though. it's a tall tower made from MDF. Most cylinders are cardboard. Although that sounds cheesy, it's very strong and the design of a cylinder doesn't flex like a flat surface might. Dana audio used to make a cylinder sub (1990's). today, i think SVS is the sole manufacturer. There's a lot of DIY cylinders also. Pete_Hsu 10-24-08, 02:25 PM We sold cylindrical subwoofers from 1991 until early 2005. We plan to reintroduce the TN1220HO cylinder subwoofer at some point next year. [/LIST] Nathan Funk does all kinds of cool stuff. I started to set up the D-cross section mains cabinets he built for me (to hold the 12" Dual Concentrics out of a set of Tannoy System 12 DMT II's) today. (Pics coming when I find the Sd card I thought was in my camera.) I wonder why cylinder subs died. They make so much sense to ship around, because they're so much lighter than wood boxes. Shipping size restrictions, perhaps? I'd love to see a well-designed commercial bandpass cylinder sub. That would be a great supplemental above-the-room-centerline sub for an awful lot of systems. It sounds as good as it looks too. Just listened to it a bit last night watching The Departed. Believe it or not that thing is not light by any means. Trust me. I had to carry it up a flight and a half of steps! DS-21, I want pics! :) Toolatecrew 10-28-08, 04:10 PM Funky Waves also makes a Cylinder. But tucked into the corner in the shadows its nearly invisible to the eye (at least as invisible as a black tube that comes up to my chin level can be. I'm going to get some pics and review up soon. hey also make smaller versions with a 12 inch driver. MKtheater 10-28-08, 04:15 PM We sold cylindrical subwoofers from 1991 until early 2005.
