View Full Version : Worth Fixing? -- Sanyo HDTV with No Green; Channel Amnesia

I have a 4 year old Sanyo 16:9 CRT HDTV, for which I paid about $700 (can't recall for sure) at W-M. It has two major problems: (1) the color has gone totally to heck and (2) it regularly loses its channel memory, which requires a new scan of available channels to rebuild it. I'm not sure if it can't make blue, or green or whatever, but the colors are all just way wrong and no amount of fiddling with it will fix it. When the channel memory goes, I can't directly/manually tune any channel and the "switch antenna" menu item does nothing.

I'm going to replace this with a Sony Bravia LCD. I'm sure of that. My question is whether it is worth fixing the Sanyo just to use as gaming box for my children. I can buy a cheap LCD of equivalent or greater size for barely over $500, so I'm sure I wouldn't fix this Sanyo if it cost more than... say... $200.

Any thoughts?

There was a defect with certain models. There is an official Sanyo thread that deals with the models. They were fixing them even out of warranty. It took me two months to get the guy at Sanyo every one said to talk to, but they stopped fixing the sets June 30th. Apparently, it is an inexpensive problem (under $100) and some people have fixed it themselves.

I've tried to get more specific info to try fixing mine but not many people follow the thread anymore. So, that is a common issue with the tv (looks greenish...it's the red messing up, things look smeary) that developed over time. You just have to decide if its worth the cost, which is low, as well as the huge hassle of lugging the tv around town.

Opps, noticed you are lacking green...here is the thread...start at the end of it and work backwards
