I have jagged vertical lines on the TV when I first turn it on. It makes people unrecognizable for about the first 10 minutes it is turned on. The length of time the lines show up for is slowly increasing over the last couple of months. After warm up, picture is great. TV is 5 years old.

Filter cap on the power supply? Other cause? Approimate cost of repair?

Any ideas to check? I am a skilled service engineer for semiconductor manufacting equipment. I used to repair boards in the equipment back when they repaired boards in the equipment. I know about safety and I know when to back off.

Thanks for your time.

PS The picture is still great. Seems worth 2-300 bucks to fix. Or is this the first of many issues?

Since the problem corrects itself after the tv warms up, I think that the problem lies in a solder connection.
I.E. cold tv, cracked solder connection, picture convergence problem, tv warms up, cracked solder expands, convergence corrects.
The length of time increasing over the last few months supports the 'solder crack theory.'

Have a look at the solder on all of your convergence ICs. If you can find the problem and correct it before it gets worse, you may save yourself the aggravation of replacing ICs and resistors later on. However, quality ICs and resistors are cheap and the repair is definately a DIY.

Good luck with the repair. Toshiba crt rptv gives a great picture.

Hypermodule. Usually not available so you have to get it rebuilt. Theres some tiny capacitors that need to be replaced.

Thank you for the information.

For cracked solder, any specific location (certain board)?

For the hypermodule, I'm a milspec qualified solderer(?). Can I replace them myself? Is the hypermodule labled as such?

Thanks for your time.

Hello
I have a TOSHIBA HDTV DLP TV model 46HM84 and a Comcast 3 in 1 remote.

I can get the Toshiba set up but for some reason the HD channels won't let me change the picture size. Does anyone know how to get the Toshiba HDTV work with the Comcast 3 in 1 so I can change the picture size in high def?

I hope I am posting on the correct forum. Thank you in advance for any assistance. :)
