We have the Sony KDF-42WE655 which has the blue dot/blob issue. It is being replaced with a new set under the Sony "Special Consideration" extended warranty program. Sony told us that they donot want the faulty set back. It's ours to use or be disposed of.

What I would like to know is wether there might be any useful life left in the KDF-42WE655. With the high cost ($1,000) involved to repair this, it certainly isn't worth doing.

At this point the blue dots are only visible when there is no picture, just a dark screen. The blob is only visible in the black bars on the sides of a compressed picture Other than this, it still has an acceptable picture. If it still has some life, I have a daughter who would like to have it - regardless of the blue dots/blob. If it doesn't then it will be disposed of.

I would very much appreciate hearing about any first hand experience anyone has had. Or any educated guesses about how long it might be before the picture becomes unacceptable to some one who isn't too fussy about its quality.

I am on my second OB on my kdf60wf655. The time from the blue spots first appearing and the picture being unwatchable was only a few weeks on my tv.
This may vary a bit, but you will see it growing without a doubt.

I waited to get mine repaired because the extended warranty was not released yet at that time.

I understand that nothing has been done to improve the OB and you could develope the same problem again at any time with a new OB.

There are several other modules in the tv that may be usefull to others.

You could list it on ebay or craigs list and get a few honest dollars for it as spare parts.

Thanks for the reply TDMA, it's appreciated.

I had my doubts that it would have much life left but you have confirmed that hunch.
