Looking for advice! I'm a total noob when it comes to subs and HT in general.

1. Budget. $300-$600 range

2. Size requirements/limits. Size of the sub is not really an issue…though, WAF would dictate smaller if possible & not sacrificing performance.

3. Room dimensions. Room is 13.5’W x 22’ L x 10’ H (~3,000 cubic ft)

4. Primary uses. 70% HT/TV, 15% games, 15% music

5. Listening habits. Just setting up my first HT system and have never had a separate sub before. I have a Harmon Kardon AVR 245 receiver with Infinity speakers (2 Beta 50s in the front, 2 Beta 40s for rear, C360 center), paired with a Samsung 61” DLP along the long wall of the room.

6. Appearance requirements. Needs to be black to match the (huge) Infinity Betas in our family room...and preferably matte (not shiny) finish.

7. Timeframe. Don’t need anything urgently…definitely willing to wait for a good deal if necessary

Have been reading other threads and am considering the Cadence CSX-15 which is about right for my price range and from other reviews seems to deliver a lot for the price. Any and all advice appreciated!!

Slightly beyond your upper price range Epik Valor/Kinght would be vastly better then the CSX-15....IMHO.

I'm looking for a sub too and it appears there really isn't anything inbetween $400 and $600 is there???

Yeah, there isn't much in that price range in terms of ID subs. The ones I can think of are the SVS 25-31 PCi ($499+ shipping), SVS 20-39 PCi ($549+ shipping), Hsu VTF-2 MK3 ($549+ shipping), and eD A3-300 ($475 or $500 including shipping, depending on the driver).

Considering your room size, budget, and strong bias toward HT and TV vs. music, I'd recommend the eD A3-300 with the upgraded driver. It's $500 shipped and should give you a very powerful bass experience for HT. Or if you want to upgrade to a nicer looking smooth matte black finish, it'll cost $535 shipped to your door. I think at that price it's probably the best HT performer you can buy (short of going DIY).

theres plenty of pretty good subs in that price range

eD A3-300 with the upgraded driver for $500 shipped your best bet
eD A2-300 $350 SHIPPED

I'm surprised to see you posting this. I thought you were wanting to get the cash back deal on ebay ? Anyway, don't overlook the Outlaw LFM-1 Plus. $614 shipped. And it is a HSU design. Loving mine.

i was asking mostly for him. most of these subs are out of my price range and are too deep for the spot I have to put my subwoofer in. I am still leaning towards the csx-15.
