I haven't used this sub in ages. But after plugging it in for a 2nd home theater upstairs, it seems like the unit is dead, amp issues.... I'm wondering how much would it cost to fix it. I rather not junk it, unless it'll cost more to fix than to buy a new one. Anyone have experience fixing this sub? Thanks, any advice would be great too.
Are the LEDs on the front lit? How do you have it connected on the sub (line level/high level) and the receiver (lfe/sub out)? What are the settings on the sub? What are the speaker settings on the AVR (Sub on/off)? What are you using to test with?

I had one with a dead amp and just revived it for use in a second room by replacing the dead amp with a new plate amp from Parts Express. Get the BASH 300 amp. It fits with just a tad of work on the existing hole with a jigsaw. The BASH amp needs a 5-7/8" by 9-7/8" cutout. It has to be turned on its side, but it will fit the cabinet without too much work. You then need a small block of wood to seal the opening left at the top, because the BASH amp is not as long as the existing JBL amp.

yup, i went through two jbl powered subwoofers. the amps just don't last. they just die out of no where. i saved the driver from the last one but threw out the box and the broken amp. i am currently using the driver in a sealed box as i'm waiting for my shiva-x to replace it.

it is line level and lfe on the receiver. the leds are on (red- no source) but just turning it on gives cracking and popping sounds...interesting, i like the idea of just replacing the amp, i'm sure the driver is fine.
I found a few posts (other forums) from a few years ago where several people had amp problems. Looks like it wasn't one of JBLs best efforts. You might give Harmon a jingle and see what they have for replacing the amp.
