Here's a somewhat odd question I thought of while re-reading some stuff on subwoofer placement.

Doing the crawling around method, we are of coarse, supposed to put the sub in the listening position.

Should I put my sub on the chair that I sit in?:)

Sounds kind of dumb but I thought I'd ask.

Yes, even try to have it at ear level. I can take 1 step and the bass can sound very different.

In this day and age I am not a fan of crawling around the room theory because it is much easier to set up room EQ and move the sub around.

i'm pretty sure you are supposed to slide the couch/chair/loveseat/whatever it is, out of the way and place the sub there.

i just simply put my sub in a few different places until i got the best combo of flattest response at the listening position and a location where i couldn't locate it audibly.

maybe its just psycho acoustics or maybe it's stuff rattling, but i could easily locate my sub when in certain spots. so i chose to put it in between my two mains up against the wall firing at me, so it didn't sound out of place or off to one side.

In this day and age I am not a fan of crawling around the room theory..............I've never been much of a fan of it. Hurts my back. :D

Seriously, though, what it can do is find a big room peak and the worst place it should be placed.

I'm not a fan of driving 45 minutes to my local ski resort either. But I don't have a helicopter to get me there in 5 minutes so I have to settle for my 4WD truck to get me there if I want to ski in good conditions.
