View Full Version : Channel Vision a-bus with local source

I have an 8 zone Channel vision a-bus system in which 5 of the zones have local sources (ab-301). All the zones with the local sources don't produce any music (on max volume you can hear faint static music with a high hum) even when I have them hooked up as the only zone to the 110 punch down and the master source. I have checked and rechecked all the wiring configurations for the ab-301 and ab-124 and all appear correct. Is anyone familiar with this issue, and more importantly, a solution? Thanks in advance!

Hi there

I have only played with single-source CV gear, and am not sure that the AB301 can be used in multi-source. However, the fact that only those zones with AB301s don't work implies that the same thing is happening in each. Bear in mind that they are designed to mute the main audio when they have an input.

Firstly, does the AB124 power up when you toggle the power (you implied it does, but assuming nothing :-)) then get an audio source and plug it into one of the AB301s and see if anything comes out of the associated AB124. Then check the AB124 jumpers. Maybe try changing to single source (jumper 1 to 2). Do you have a P1044 source?

I would then suggest bypassing one of the AB301s and seeing what happens. If it works it implies that the wiring is good, and that the AB301s won't work in this scenario, in which case it would be time for a call to Channel Vision.

Good Luck!

Hyphen,

Thanks very much for the advice. The AB124 does power up correctly and plays music from my IPod when plugged into the local source, but doesn't play any music when the AB301 is installed trying to play music from the master source. However, splicing the CAT5 cables together at the local source area provided a reliable connection, that played sound flawlessly from the master source. Therefore the entire chain works correctly (minus the AB-301). I also tried swapping the AB301 input and output wires to validate that I didn't wire it backwards and the AB124 won't power up in that scenario. Could I have gotten 6 bad AB301's?

Thanks for your help!

I contacted CV customer support and they issued RMA's on the 6 AB301's.
