I have a Russound CAM 6.6T that I use to distribute audio through three different zones. I want to add a source for digital music that would come from Internet Radio, and a music library on a NAS (over 57000 tracks). I originally tried using an old laptop, but for some reason the audio output through the line out jack is not very strong. Additionally I have to go to my closet to change the station or playlist every time. I am considering a Squeezebox or Sonos, but don't really need the multiroom features of these.

So I am looking to:

1) Play Internet Radio
2) Access my Music Library on my network
3) Have some sort of remote that shows me what I am selecting.
4) Not spend lots of money.
5) Bonus if there is a solution where I do not have to leave my computer on
6) Bonus if the system can be easily controlled with and Ipod / Iphone touch

One option I thought was using a Sonos ZP 80 (available used on eBay) or ZP 90 with the new iPod / iPhone software.

Another option I have heard is that I could use a Squeezebox Duet and they also make iPhone / Ipod Software.

Anyone else have thoughts? A priority would be to have a simple way of accessing the internet radio or my music library without going to access a PC in a back room or some other large piece of gear.

Thanks

You have picked the two best options for your situation. Both solutions will meet all of your criteria.

For the Sonos, you will need two units, one to hook up to your network, the other to hook up to your receiver.

The Squeezebox duet will do what you want out of the box. The Squeezebox Classic may be a cheaper solution if you plan on using your iTouch to control your music selection.

The decision between the two will probably come down to which system is compatable with your NAS, so you can access your music collection without turning on your PC.

Thanks malaugh. Though I thought I could get away with one Sonos as I can run ethernet directly to it off my network? Am I mistaken?

I am not an expert (I have a Squeezebox) but I think you are correct. You only need a second Sonos box if you need wireless streaming.

I've been kicking around those two choices myself. I'm pretty critical when it comes to audio quality so i'm going with the squeezebox duet and it's high end DAC. I was able to A/B one this weekend with a Denon CD player on Kef speakers and Sony ES5300 receiver on direct mode and i couldn't tell the difference !
