I am looking to upgrade from my 52"" Mitsubishi 52725 DLP purchased in March 2005. Want to move up to 61" and question whether I should stay DLP. I have been fortunate to the extent that until recently I have not had the various problems I have seen with other owners such as with the lamp going out (I am still on the original lamp and I use the set quite a bit), capacitor problems, but now I am starting to have the "green blinking light of death", the set turning off without notice and (occasionally) a red light. I just unplug the set for a few minutes and all is well again.
I have never had my set "cleaned". Should I do so? Also plan to change the lamp shortly. Any advice on the best/most economicaloutlet to get a replacement lamp?
More importantly, any advice on whether to stay with DLP (or go LCD) and, if so, which brand/model? I see too many complaints regarding this particular Mitsubishi model and may want to look elsewhere.
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. Thanks in advance ofr any help.

you should definately get the internal mirror cleaned, even with normal use the lower internal mirror can get pretty filthy. to be ready for the lamp going out a replacement unit would be $130-200. My first lamp cost $200 from mits. The second time i got a lamp only replacement for $130 off ebay and swapped it out myself using the old external cage.
if your set is experiencing those problems it probably will not last much longer till it goes out for good with the capacitor issues.
My wd62525 is sitting dead on it's stand and I do plan on trying to repair it if possible within cost reasons. It really pisses me off to have spent $4000 on it 2 1/2 years ago and now its dead. But in the mean time I had bought a 60" Pioneer Elite plamsa and plan on it being in use for many years.

How do I go about cleaning the internal mirror? Professionally or is that something I can do?
I take it by your response you would not recommend another Mits DLP. Would you recommend another brand DLP or go plasma or LCD? If so, any top picks?
Thanks for the response.

Cleaning the internal is not too difficult. You have to remove all screws from the back of the screen behind the bezel. You also have to remove the cover above the front inputs and 4 remaining screws that hold the screen in place below it on the front of the TV. I recommend having help lifting it off and putting it back on just because the first time you never know what will happen. ;-) Better safe than sorry.
Once inside, I would use a lint free cloth and lens cleaning solution to clean the mirror and the projector lens. You'll be amazed at how dirty it is if you've never cleaned it. I would do this at least every six months (assuming you keep it).
As far as the lamp goes, I personally have a 62725 myself and buy my lamps off of Ebay. Last one I picked up was for $98, but I got the lamp only and reused the housing. If you're not afraid to do that, you can save $20-$40 doing so.
The new Mitsubishi's are actually very nice. I have calibrated a few and they come out pretty darn good. Sammy has a nice one too with their LED set. You can't go wrong with either, honestly, IMO.

yes you can do it. its pretty easy overall. but as nicholc2 mentions you may need a little help when it time to remove the front screen to be on the safe side.
check the owners thread.
page 95 for detailed instructions by Spiff and page 141 for photos done by iron horse. i posted photos on page 148 of a dirty mirror before and then after cleaning.
