Hi, I plan to create a home theatre in my home. A few caveats before I delve into my problem.
1) I am a NEWB -- read that once again !!
2) Until now, I thought Bose was the only one out there -- so you can imagine how much of a newb i am.
Please keep the above two in mind while responding...and be nice :)
I have no intentions (or the room) to create a cinema hall. All I plan to do is have a home theatre built around my existing flat panel TV.
First, I have recently researched on a few speaker companies. names such as PSB, Magnepans, Martin Logan have been thrown at me and the responders have expected me to know which one is better than the other.
So I ask you these questions:
1) Do you need to have 3-way (tweeter, mid-range, and woofer) speakers as your main/front speakers?
2) Are dipole speakers better than monopole for surrounds?
3) I have also seen receivers from $200 all the way upto $8000. Whats the big difference apart from the price? I did read a little about THX Select or Ultra certification -- but I think there has to be more than just that.
4) The little research that I have done makes me think that speakers with higher sensitivity and lower impedance are better. Correct?
5) My budget for the home theatre is $4000 USD +- $500. This should include a 5.1/6.1 speaker set and a receiver.
Can you suggest a few speaker companies and receiver companies that I should look at. This system will not be built in US/Canada. So once you suggest some names, I will research and find out if they are available in my country. As of now, I know that PSB, Magnepans (not all models), Martin Logans and Bowers and Wilkins are available at a store near my home.
Yamaha and Onkyo are some companies that I have looked at for receivers.
Thanks in advance..
Oh and if this is the wrong sub forum, then I apologize. I wasn't sure if this would go into home theatre or into speakers section.
