Hey,
Im looking for suggestions to remove dust particles that are constantly in the air of my theater room. I look under my potlights and I see it flying!!
Any units that can sit in the room under $200 that will help?
thank you!

Here's a really cheap trick. Get an old box fan (about 20" by 20" square. Attach a good 20" x 20" AC filter to the back of the fan with bungie cords (making sure that the airflow arrow on the filter is pointing the right direction). Run the fan in the room for a while. You will see that all of the airborne dust is gone! You will have to change the filter every few days (depending on how much work you do). You will notice when it's time to change the filter by how hard the fan is working.
If you are in the mudding stage, check out the dustless drywall compound. http:///www.downwithdust.com. It's a bit more expensive for a smaller container, but it really works well.

AHA. I hadn't thought about that! I stayed in a beach house that had one of those electrostatic air cleaner, ionization combo thingies. It worked reallt well and kept the air moving and clean.

What, is a filter bungied to a box fan too ghetto, aqua? :D Actually I think I'll try this trick when I get set to be finished with the theater, to clean the space of extra dust... there's tons of it right now.

Honeywell puts out a pretty good line but I hate that they are all butt ugly white. I like the large round units because I believe the amount of air moving and large surface area of filter makes a difference. It also has a pre-filter that can easily be cleaned and reused.
I also have a 3 Oreck table top filters in our bedrooms that I will use once my theater is complete but that is for the really small stuff. They are a bit pricy and more than you want to spend.
I would suggest two solutions.
First a radical cleaning. Box fans and furnace filters as suggested above, vacuum like a crazy man with a high quality vacuum (make sure you are using high quality bags (If not a bag less vacuum)). I would go so far as to use an electric leaf blower multiple times to stir up the air while the filters are running. Dust sticks to everything, including walls and textured ceilings. Cover up equipment, of course. Use a high power vacuum hose attachment to clean all the edges (where carpet meets wall, corners etc. Cheap vacuums are notorious for just spreading the dust around.
Then, think of some type of long term solution like a room filter.
If you just put a filter in a dusty room I doubt it would ever catch up.

Take a look at the oreck air purifier. It can hang on the wall (would obviously need an outlet behind it). An Ionic Breeze is another option. Comletely silent and uses harldy any power. I use to have one and the work pretty well.

What a smart idea!
Another idea to keep dust down when mudding the drywall, is after you tape the seams - wait for about 5-7 minutes and then go over the mud with a simi-wet sponge. This smooth's out alot of the stuff that you'll end up sanding later.

Funny you mentioned an Oreck product! I just spent almost $700 on an Oreck XL21 Vacuum cleaner last month! LOL! I am very impressed with their products and may consider the air purifier at some point as well.

For $700 you should be able to just put the Vacuum in the middle of the room and let it clean the air. :p
